T0 -ALL WHOMIT MAY CONCERN: v
Beit known that I, H. F. WHEELER, of Boston, in the county of Suolk, und State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Pen-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following, taken in connection with tho drawings which accompany and form part'of this specificatiomis a description of my invention, suiicient to enable those skillead in the art to practise it. I
In using writing-pens, it is oftenconvenient und sometimes necessaryto use two pens, containingtwb kinds of ink, as n red ink and a. black ink, or -two kinds ofpens, as n. coarse one und a. fine one, and my invention hns for its object such a construction as shall enablevtwo pens to'bc, used without change of stock or handle, the invention consisting in combining, with a. single pen-stock or handle, holders or sockets for two pens, which holders or sockets fork out from one end of the handle (when the instrument is ready for use) in such manner that either may be dipped into an ink-bottle without disturbing the other, and may be freely held and guided in writing, the same as if the pen were in a common handle.
It is this construction that constitutes my invention,a.nd en instrument. embodying the improvement is shown in the drawings.
a'denotes the hanldle,`b b the pen-sockets, and c c the two pens. Each penfsocket, b, is formed on the' end of a thin metal spring, d, and the tw springs uniting are inserted -fnst into the end of the stock or vhandle a. A tube, f, slides upon the handle, and by forcing it outwardly, as seienv 'et C, the pens are brought together in convenient position for the instrument tolie upon adesk or table, or on a. pen-rack, while. by sliding the tube back upon the handle, as seen at A -and B, the pen-sockets spring apa.1t, hringing each pen into position for use, as will readily be seen.
Either pen muy be used with one-kind of ink when the two are brought together, and in this case the two maybe used as a. fountain-pen, not only holding in each the amount of ink commonly heldin an ordinary pen, but also holding a. considerable supply of ink between the sockets, whieh'ink flows freely down into. the pens as the ink flows therefrom in writing.
The construction and arrangement of the pen-sockets may be modied from that shown, it being understood .that i do not limit my invention to .the mens of applying the sockets, but design to cover broadly combining twopen-sockets with a. handle in such manner that a pen in either .socket may be used independently o f the other, os may be desired. i
I claim c pen-holder, havingsockets for two pens, substantially as described.
. H. E. WHEELER.
