D. D. FOLEY, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT- OF' CQLUMBIA.., Letters Patent'No. 72,382, dated December 17, 1867 cntedated November 13, 1867.
IMPBOVEMENT IN PEN-HOLDERS.
vao
TO ALL WHOM IT ,MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, D. D. FOLEY, of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Double-Nib Capilla'y writing-Pen; and I hcreby declare the following to' be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being h:- d to the accoupanying drawings, in whichl Figures 1 and 2 are perspective vicws of my double-nib capillary pen attac'hed to holders.
Figure is a mode of attaching the back or convex surface of' any two ordinary pens to the holder, to prol duce my double-nib eapillary pen.
Figure 4 is still another view of my capillary pen.
Figure 5 is a sectional viewof a modified and more imperfect form of my capillary pen.
Figure G is a view of an ordinary pen.
The nature of my invention consists in producing a more continuous and pe'fect-flowing pen, having two points or nihs, either of which may be used in writing by unitiug or fastening the backs or convex su'faceof any two metaliic pens together; leaving a proper capiliary space or Opening between to retain the ink, so that when the pen is taken out of the ink, enough remains in the capilla'y space to write with `eithcr nib or point more than five times the usual matter without renewing the nk.
That others may understand the construction and operation of my double-nib capiliary pen, I will partieulariy describe it. l x
' a a are any two erdina'ymetailic pens nited or fastened together at the back orconvex surfacef; e, the
tube which hoids the pen at one end, and b the hoider; .g`,` the enpilIar-y space or Openin between, to retain the ink for writing, and the red lines the ink as it is confined in the ezpillary space or opening,'so that a pressure on either nib or point causes the ink to flow for a longtime in the most pcrfcet and satisfac tory manner. In
the same way a sti' and soft pen may'be united or fastened together to give m oreqor less shadng to the letters.
Having deseribed iny i'm'ention, I do not cizim annexing two pens back to back'in the same holder, but What I claim as new, and desire to sccuro by Letters Patent, isl Two pens, so united or fast-ened together, back to back, in a. holde' or. socket, :s to form a fountain or' rescrvoir between the nibs or points, substantially a's -set forth.
V D. D. FOLEY.
