Letters Patent No. 71,735, dated December 3, 1867.
MPRovEMENT IN PLOUGHS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
l. Be it knownn that we, WILLIAM Giens, L. P. WIKIDAL, and Geenen GIBBsfof Canton, in the county of Stark, in t-lie State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Cest Share foi` Ploughs; and we` do hereby declare that the following is a. full and exact description thereof, 'reference being hedto the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of our invention consists in providing the cast share of a. steel or coulter-plougbwith :t flange overlapping the mould-board.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will describe its construction and operation. v i
We construct the share with any of known -forms as to outline; but a. cast share to be substituted for a Vsteel one, in what are celled combination ploughsfwould be too light and thin to withstand the dirty if made with a surface even, and in conformity to that of the mould-board. We therefore thicken the -shztre to a. requisite strength, as shown at a, Figurel, which additioualthickness iscarried over the joint so as to overlap the mould-board, as shown by the dotted line et b, in Figure 2'. Figure 3 isa, reversed view of the sharefwith the flange-indicated by the shading at a, end wheh is ready to take the place vacated by a. steel share, as seen by the shading on the extended post c, iig. 2, end the rear prjectionriveted on the under side of the mould-board. This device, besides giving the necessary streugthto the share, protects the mould-boord from undue weer at the point where it most needs it.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The flange on cast shares, when constructed and-used as hereinbefere described.
