A IMPROVED WINDOW-FASTENING.
ette .,tigbnlg wenn it in these what ntent ma umtiug part nf tige same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Beit known that I, GEORGE BYRON KIRKHAM, of 167 East Thirty-Third street, city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Window-Fastening, which I term a Window-Guardand I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, suihcient to enable one skilled inthe art to whichthe invention appertains to make use of it, reference being had to the acccmpanying drawings, which form a part of this specication, and in which- Figure 1 represents an inside view of the fastening, that is, the side which rests against the windowr door, and to which it is secured by screws or any suitable means.
Figure 2 shows separately the double-toothed bolt B.
Figure 3 is an under view of the finger-slide C, D being the depressed part that rests en the bolt B.
Figure 4 represents the body ofthe fastening, with the bolt and slide removed to show the`kcy-hole F and ,the catch E which the key acts against. Y
Figure 5 represents-the key. l
This improvement is designed to produce a fastening which shall be simple, yet strong and ciiicient, such as can be applied to windows, doors, dto., and when desired can be locked und unlocked either from the inside or outside. l
In iig. 1 the Bolt B is shown as moving to the right or left, according as the slide .C is pressed-up. or down, the acute angles ot vtheir bearings causing that movement. This bolt B has a double-toothed point, which, when it is pushed out, presses against the framework of the window or door, and prevents them from being moved or opened. On the lower part of the slide C is a ridge, Gr, shown in iig. 3, which ridge engages with a catch, E, in iig. 4, and this catchE must be'pushed to onerside when the slide is raised. This is accomplished by the key, g. 5, which is shoved through the key-hole F, and when turned the point ofthe key H pushes the catch E to one side so the slide C can be raised, thus opening the whole fastening.
Having described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-I- I claim the fastening complete with its several parts, the body A, the double-pointed bolt B, the slide the catch E, and thc key, as described and represented.
GEO. B. KIRKHAM.
