IMPROVED DOOR-HOLDER.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. MESSLER, of Eureka, in the county of Woodford, and State of Illinois,
have invented a new and improved Door-Holder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved method of holding doors open, and consists of a catch, attached to the wall against which the'door opens, the door-latch slipping into the catch.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective view of the catch holding the door.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the lock on door D; a, the bolt; B, the catch, secured to thewall C against which the door opens. The catch is of brass or other suitable elastic material, capable of being forced outward to admit the bolt, but springing back so soon as the bolt has passed the angular projecting or bcvelled end b. About the centre of v the catch B, and on the same side as the door and angular projecting 'end b, isa projection, b. The distance between b and b is to be sufficient to receive the bolt easily. The distance between b and the wall is to be sniiicient to give room'for the handle and lock-key, so that they shall not strike the wall. l
The door being opened, the bolt slides easily into the catch between b and b', but is unable to return without turning the handle or key of the lock, as may be desired.
By the use of this device the door is held open, and the lock furniture hindered from injuring the wal-l.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patcnt- Thecatch B, constructed substantially as described, attached to a wall or other suitable place, in combination with the lock A on door D, in manner and for the purposes as herein set forth and described.
