TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: i 1
Be it known that I, LEWIS W. SVHAEFFER, of West Milton, in the county ofMiarnhin the State of Ohiin` have invented a new and improved Ohurn; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full and exact descrip# tion thereof; reference `being had to the accompanying drawings, Vand to `the letters of reference inarked thereon.4 h
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of two dashes of peculiar form; one revolving Y within the other, and in an opposite direction. V A:
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the churn, with a portion out away to show the interior.
Figure 2 represents al transverse section` 'i The same letters occurring on the different figures refer to like parte` h i A represents the vessel, which, in a practical form; is oorrst-rncte'd as the ordinary Barrel-charms, with this i l exception, that an open-ing is left in the top-of snlcient size to admit of the removal 'of the dashes. .To the right end is attached a. frame, D, which supports the end of the shaft' E and -the axle of `the spnwheel m. To the shaft-the cog-wheel o and the arin not' the dash are attached. The cog-wheels, moves loosely .enthis` t shaft; and to the hub of it,'on the inside of the churn, is attache-d the arnx s of the external'idash. The hub of the wheel n has a bearing in the ohurnhend. 'To the end oi' the shaft is attached the crank Gt YThe axle-7F has e` thread cut npon it, and is screwed intoths left-hand head, and forms a bearing forlthe dashes. 'Thertran'sverse section, fig. 2, shows therarms' '1- and s; and to each arm are attachedv four wings B to the external dash, and wings C to the internal dash. The position 'of the two wings on'the end of each of the arms, one is exactly the reverse of the other and the line of' them does not cross the axis, but crosses about thirty degrees within the axis of motion, or at a point about one-third the distance from the axis to theperiphery-` As these Winge` are arranged 'the cream is thrown alternatelyto and from the'centre, each wing successively changing the direetion of the cream. Where the wings are set on a line crossing the axis, the creatnis driven around the interior of `the churn in front of the wings; and as the arrangement here described admits the cream to `glide by par tially, rapidly changing thedireeton, it is believed the churning. can be elected more readily, and with less t poweaL than is otherwise done. I h i i What I claim as my invention, and'desire to Secure by Letters Patent, is 4 I The arrangement of the several wings B and C on ths'arms r and s with reference to the vessel in the manner substantially as and for the purpose speciied. i'
