UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DENNIS B. MARTIN, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE SEAMLESS RUBBER CO., OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION.
STOPPER-HOLDER SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 687,046, dated November 19, 1901.
Application filed April 22, 1901.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DENNIS B. MARTIN, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Stopper-Holders for Water- Bags; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a perspective View of the upper portion of a hot-water bag, illustrating the preferred form of my invention.
This invention relates to an improvement in stopper-holders for water bags or bottles, the object of the invention being to provide rubber bags or bottles of usual construction with a device for holding the stopper when the same is not inserted into the mouth of the bottle.
Practically it is desirable that the stopper should not be inserted into the mouth of the bottle when the bottle is not in use, and bottles are usually provided with means for suspending them in an inverted position, so that they may properly drain. With the stopper thus detached it is very frequently lost. Hence the necessity of this invention, which consists in providing a water bag or bottle with a device by which the stopper may be temporarily attached to it at some point other than in the mouth of the bag, as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
As herein shown, the bag A, which is of usual construction and provided with a funnel-mouth B at its upper end and with a suspension-handle C, is provided with a short strap D, secured at one end to the neck E of the bottle, and adapted at its other end to be connected with the handle 0 by means of an ordinary ball-and-socket snap-fastener F or other suitable device and so as to form with Serial No. 66,903. (No model.)
the handle a short loop. This strap is adapted to pass through the eye G of a stopper H and so that thestopper will be secured to the rubber bag. This strap may be formed from rubber, and preferably corresponds with the material from which the bag is made.
I am aware that stoppers for rubber waterbags have been permanently connected with the bag by a flexible connection. I am also aware that glass bottles have been provided with holders for the stoppers therefor, and therefore do not wish to be understood as claiming, broadly, such as my invention; but,
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a water-bag provided with a flaring neck and formed of flexible material, of a flexible, loop-handle extending over the outside of the neck of the bag and having its ends secured at the base thereof, a stopper-strap superimposed upon the outer face of one end of the handle, adapted in width to readily pass through the loop or eye of the bottle-stopper, having its lower end permanently secured to the bag at or near the base of the neck thereof, and a fastening device adapting the outer end of the stopperstrap to be detachably secured to the said handle instead of to the neck of the bag, whereby, when. the stopper is removed from the neck of the bag, and the bag is suspended upside down for draining it, the stopper may be connected with the bag through the stopperstrap, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DENNIS B. MARTIN.
