Description
@etten tstrs getter @Uhr I JOHN EDDY, OF BARNESVILLE, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 68,495, dated September 3, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM-ENGINE GOVENORS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN EDDY, of Barnesville, in the county of Belmont, and Stute of Ohio, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Stcnm-Englne Governors; and I do hereby declare that the following is n full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the nrt to ineke and use the suine, reference being had to the' accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. i
The objectief this invention is to render the a-ction of the ordinary centrifugal governor more sensitive to variations of speed in the engine than is usuel by the common method; and it consists in :in arrangement ot' levers and chains, combined with n. weight end rod, whereby the governor of the engine controls the throttlevalve in the most perfect manner, as will be hereinafter described.' I
The drawing represents on elevation of the apparatus, showing the diil'erent parte :1nd their eolnhinntion with each other,
A is a. pillar er stand, which supports the levers, which levers have their fulcrn. in lnortises or slots therein,
'as seen in the drawing. B is the upper lever, and C is the lower lever. D is n rod, which is attached to or connected with the sliding-sleeve of the governor. This rod D is connected nt its lower end with the leve:` C nt a.. The two levers are connected together et one end by a, chain, marked E. F is n chnin, which is ettnehed to the lower lever C at b, from whence it passes up over :i pulley, marked G; ond it then pnssesdown und tnkes hold of a. weight, rnnrkcd IL as seen in the drawing. J is another chain, which is connected with the upper lever B at e, and to the weight H, :is seen. The weight H represents the tlirottle-vulve as, the rnlve is opened or closed es the weight is raised er lowered by the action of the governor on the levers.
Having thus described my invention, I claim es new, and desire to secure 'ey Letters Potent- The combination of the pillar A, levers B C, connecting-rod D, chains E F J, pulley G, und weight Il, substantially as described for the purpose specified.
JOHN EDDY. Witnesses:
JOHN REED, IsAAe L. Hennes.
