SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 676,594, dated June I8, 1901.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRITZ VOGEL, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Dusseldorf, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wardrobes, of which the following is a description.

The present invention relates to that class of wardrobes in which the garments are suspended from a number of pivotally-supported arms supported on the interior walls and in some cases on the doors of the wardrobe and which arms are adapted to swing apart when the doors are opened, so as to enable any garment to be selected and removed from the wardrobe Very conveniently.

The invention consists, essentially, in connecting up the said arms by means of a toggle-link system to the joints of which downwardly-turned hooks are applied, on which the garment or the garment-carriers are hung.

In order to render the present specification easily intelligible, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views.

Figure 1 is a sectional front elevation on line B B, Fig. 2, of the top part of a wardrobe constructed according to the present invention. Fig. 2 is a part-sectional plan of the same with the doors closed, and Fig. 3 is a similar View showing the doors open.

The device operates in the following manner: When one of the doors t is thrown open, it opens the other one simultaneously, and the arms I) b will be drawn apart by means of the cords s 5, connecting up each set at each side of the wardrobe. These arms serve in the present case to keep the toggle-links a a in the proper position in the arc of a circle, or thereabout, as will be clearly seen at Fig. 3, so that the garments will be evenly spread apart and very easily and conveniently ac- WVhen the doors are closed, the garments will be gently laid together, and thus the space of the wardrobe is very economically utilized.

I am aware that wardrobes have been known having the arms similarly arranged to arms 17 b and connected up by cords s; but hitherto these arms have been used to support the garments direct, whereas the employment of the two toggle-link systems enables a larger number of clothes to be better packed in the wardrobe.

I claim as my invention- The combination of a wardrobe having two doors of angular horizontal section hinged to the side walls, horizontally-extending arms hinged to the said side walls and to the interior lateral portions of the doors and cords to swing said arms apart when the doors are opened, toggle-links fixed at one end to the back of the wardrobe and at the other end to the interior of the doors at each side of the wardrobe, the said arms being coupled to the said links at intermediate points of the same and means for opening and closing the two doors in unison, when one is operated substantially as described.
