Letters Patent N'o. 67,534, dated August 6, 1867.
IIVIPROVED KNIFE-CLEANER.
TO WHOM IT MAY OONCERN: Y
Be it known that I, JOSHUA F. HAMMOND, of' Providence, Rhode Island, have `invented new and useful improvements in Knifc-Polishers; and I do hereby declare the following to be u full :ind exact description of the same, reference being had to the drawings that accompany and form u part of-these specifications, in which- Figure I is a sectional view.
Figure 2, view of the article in use.
Figure 3, view of position for applying the polishing-powder.
Letter A represents e metallic socket, with shank for handle; letter I3, e little cup, with cover, containing the polishing-powder; letter C, a cork pressed firmly 4into the socket A; letter D, the handle.
The object of my invention is to provide :L more convenient polisher than has been heretofore olfered, both as to the manner of keeping and applying the powder, and as to the manner of holding the cork, or ivhutever is used to produce the rubbing or friction.
The socket A muy be made of common castings, end should be vof sufficient depth to hold the cork well. yThe cups ure readily inude of sheet tin, and muy he in diameter larger than the flange of the socket on which they stond, if desired. A few small holes ure mode in the cap of the cup, as represented in fig. 3. These holes should be very small, und on that part ofthe disk .shown in Eg. 3, as thus it is more convenient in use.
A cork is often teken in the fingers to rub upon u knife, 'which is not eusy. In my device the hund can `grasp firmly the handle, readily give the proper pressure of the cork upon the knife, and when more powder is required, a turn of the wrist bringing the position shown in fig. 3.
'.lhe cup P may lie-soldered or rivet-ed to the sock'et, or attached in any other convenient manner. The
` shank ofthe socket muy he'straight, as represented in fig. I, or curved, as shown in tig, 2.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The socket A, the cup B, with its cap provided with the small openings, ond the cork C, or its equivalent, all arranged substantially us described and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
