Be it known that I, F. W. HUXFORD, of Boonsboro, Boone county, Iowa, have invented a new and useful improvement'in Fences; and I do hereby declare that the following is n full, clear, and exact descriptionthereoi', which will enable those skilled in thc art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming pui-t of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is e side view of n portion of my improved fence:

My invention has for its object to furnish un improved fence for keepingthe snow from drifting into cuts in railroads, and obstructing the truck, and for other similar purposes; and it consists in the combination ofl the top, set et un angle with the vertical port of the fence, :1s hereinafter more fully described.-

A are the posts, B are the horizontal rails, and C are the boards of en ordinary tight fence, which may be made of any desired height, and about the construction of which there is nothing new. D are the braces, to which the top boards are attached, `und which are set at un angle with the vertical lines of the fence. The braces D muy be nailed or otherwiseiattztched to the posts B, or they may be mortised into said posts, as may be desired or convenient. E are additional strengthening braces, which may be attached to the ends of the braces D, and to the lower parts of the posts B, if desired. F ar-e the top boards, which are securely attached to the braces D, and which moy be placed upon the upper or lower sides of said braces, as may be desired.

By this construction, the wind striking the fence will be deflected so as to form n countercurrent, which will deposit the snow in e drift upon the outside of the fence, und will prevent itvfrom: being blown upon the track and obstructing it.

What I claiin as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination of an inclined or angular top, D F, with the vertical part of thc fence, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
