To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, WILLIAM G. PFEIFFER and LOTTIE PFEIFFER, citizens of the United States, residing at Arlington, in the county of Washington and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment-fasteners; and its primary object is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, being formed in but one piece, and which will effectively fasten garments together.

To these ends the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of our invention, and in which Figure 1 is a detailed view showing the de- Vice secured to a garment. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastener detached.

Referring to the drawings by numerals of reference, 1 is a triangular body portion formed, preferably, of spring metal and having a tongue 2 extending inward from one end thereof. Extending from the opposite side of the body 1 andin alinement with the tongue 2 is an arm 3, which is of any desired length. This arm is bent upon itself, as at 4, forming a spring extension 5, the free end of which normally rests between the body and the free end of the tongue 2.

Inwardly-curved ears 6 are arranged at opposite sides of the arm 3 and are adapted to extend under the edge of a strip '7 of suitable cloth, which has been secured at its ends to a garment 8. The body 1 is inserted between the strip 7 and the garment 8 and the tongue 2 is drawn down after passing the upper edge of the strip. The ears 6 are then placed in engagement with the lower edge of strips 7, as shown.

A strip 9, similar to strip 7, is secured to the supporting-garment 10 and is adapted to be slipped between the tongue 2 and the extension 5. When the strip is in position, it will rest between the inner end of the tongue and the free end of the extension 5 and said extension will prevent the same from slipping out of position within the fastener. It will be seen that the fastener can only be detached from the upper garment by depressing the spring extension 5 and then slipping the tongue 2 out of the strip of said garment.

In the foregoing description We have shown the preferred form of our invention; but we do notlimit ourselves thereto, as We are aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and we therefore reserve the right to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the scope of our invention.

We claim- As a new article of manufacture, a fastener formed in one piece of spring metal and comprising a body, a tongue at one end of the body and lying thereover, an arm extending from the opposite end of the body, an inward extension thereto normally engaging the tongue, and ears formed with and lying over the body at opposite sides of the arm.
