Description

W. EVANS.
KEY RING CLIP- APPLICATION FILED on. 15, I919.

W/////////A7////////I/A W Era/16 UNITED STATES 7 WILLIAM EVANS, OF-UVALDE, TEXAS.
KEY-RING cnIP;
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 6, 1920.
' Application filed October 15, 1919: Serial No. 330,693.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM EvANs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Uvalde, in the county of Uvalde-and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key-Ring Clips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in key ring clips and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character for attaching a key ring to a belt or some portion of a garment and which will prevent the key ring from becoming detached when the wearer is occupying a sitting position as is frequent with clips of the well known type now on the market.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a key ring clip of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and' eflicient and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
WVith these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. 7
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation-partly in section of a key ring clip constructed in accordance with my invention, and illustrating the same applied to a belt.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of the same, illustrating the overlapping ends of the cli llig. 3 is a similar view of the other edge of the clip.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates as an entirety a clip consisting of loops 2 and 3. The loop 2- is of a smaller size than the loop 3 and is adapted to receive or have passed therethrough a belt 4 for attaching the clip to the wearer. The loop 3 is considerably larger than the loop 2 and has. an open portion to permit a key ring 5 to be placed on the loop 3 for supporting keys thereon.
The clip 1 is constructed from a single length of resilient material, which material is first bent upon itself to form the loop 2 and the ends are extended laterally of theloop 2 to form the loop 3. The end 6 of the material is tapered as illustrated at 7 and abuts a fiat face 8 formed on the end 9 and which end is enlarged as illustrated at 10 and disposed slightly laterally of the end 6 so that a key ring can be readily inserted between the ends 6 and 9 for placing and removing a key ring from the loop 3. The end 6 is disposed downwardly while the end 9 is disposed upwardly when the device is applied to the belt 4. By having the end 6 disposed downwardly a comparatively smooth face is provided to the loop 3 so that after the ring has been applied onto the loop an upward movement of the ring caused by a person occupying a sitting position will not catch or pass between the ends 6 and 9. To remove the key ring from the loop 3, a downward and lateral pull is made upon the ring causing the same to pass between the ends 6 and 9 and the replacing of the ring on the loop is accomplished in the same manner.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of partsmay be'made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A key ring clip comprising a loop member adapted to receive a belt, a second loop member formed integrally with the first loop member and having its ends overlapped to receive av key ring.
2. A key ring clip comprising a single length of material bent upon itself to form an elongated loop adapted to receive a belt, the ends of said material being disposed laterallyof the loop and in overlapping relation to form a second loop adapted to receive a ke ring.
3. A clip comprising a single length of material bent upon itself to orm an elongated loopv adapted to receive a belt, the
ends of said material extending laterally of of the key ring between theends ofthe ma- 10 the loop and in overlapped relation to form terial.
a second elongated loop of a larger size than In testimony whereof I aflix my signature the first named loop for receiving a key ring, in presence of two witnesses. the downwardly extending end of said maa EVANS terial being tapered and the upwardly extending end bein flattened and enlarged, Witnesses:
said enlarged en being disposed laterally W. H. CARVER, of the other end to permit the easy insertion J osnrn CASPER.
