HOSE GRIP.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 22. I9I9.

a5 a v 1 flttoznu,
UNITED sT T s PATENT OFFICE- WILLIAM I). FUREY, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
HOSE GRIP.
To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM D. FUREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Grips, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hose and other garment supporters or clasps composed of a stud or button over which the part to be held is folded, and a loop member which receives said parts and holds the same so that the part which is folded over the button cannot slip.
The invention has for its object to provide a simple and very eflicient clasp of the kind stated, which will securely hold the part to which it is applied, and which can be easily attached or detached.
The object stated is attained by means of a novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
In thedrawing,
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device showing the same applied to the hose or other part to be supported;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the device detached;
Fig. 3 is an elevation thereof;
Fig. 4: is an elevation showing a modification, and
Fig. 5 is an edge view thereof.
The drawing shows the invention applied to a garter a fragment of the latter being shown at 6, and a fragment of the hose or other part to be supported is shown at 7 It will be understood, of course, that the invention is not limited to garters, but may be applied, with equal facility, to other supporting members.
The loop member of the clasp is composed of side bars 8 and connectin end bars 9 and 10, respectively. This mem er is connected to the garter strap 6 by folding and securing the end thereof around the top cross bar 9 in the ordinary manner.
The stud or button member 11 is rectangular and has a reduced portion 12 at its base to form a contracted neck or shank.
A flexible tab .13 secured to the bottom cross bar 10 of the loop member, supports Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb. 17, 1920. Application filed March 22', 1919. Serial 'No. 284239. I
the stud member a suitable distance from the latter. Fig. 2 shows this tab folded around a small plate 14, the stud member being secured to said plate by rivets 15. In Figs. 4 and 5, the stud member has a top extension provided with a slot 16 through which the tab 13 is looped. Various other expedient may be resorted to for attaching the stud. member to its supporting tab.
The distance between the side bars 8 at the lower portion of the loop member is less than the width of the head 11 of the stud member, but the space here is wide enough to permit entry of the shank 12. Above this contracted portion of the loop member, the latter is widened to permit ready insertion of the stud shank.
In use, the hose or other part to be supported is folded over the head 11 and the latter with the folded material, is passed through the upper wide portion of the loop member and slid downward to bring its shank 11 to seat in the contracted portion, in which it will be held by the tension on the parts. As the shank is rectangular it fits squarely between the cross bars 8 and is securely held thereby from turning and thus releasing the grip on the hose or other part.
I claim:
1. A clasp, comprising a loop member of angular formation and having parallel end bars, one of said end bars being of greater length than the other, the side bars of said loop being each connected to the longer end bar by a portion extending at an acute angle to said end bar, said portion merging into a portion at right angles to said end bar, said last portion merging into a second portion at an acute angle with relation to said end bar, said last portion merging into a second portion at right angles to said end bar, the last mentioned portions of the two side bars being connected together by the shorter end bar, a tab secured at one end to said shorter end bar and carrying at its opposite end an angular stud having a contracted neck portion and a flange extending around each side of said neck portion and across one end thereof, the organization being such that when the neck portion is placed between the right angle portions of the side bars that are connected by the shorter end bar the flanges of the stud will engage said right angle portions and said shorter end bar at each side thereof, thereby to have a gripping contact contact therewith along three angularly re- 10 lated sides.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
WILLIAM D. FUREY.
