GARMENT-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0.|758,507, dated April 26, 1904. Application led September 30, 1903. Serial No. 175,198. (Noniodel.)
To @LZ whom, 35 may concern:
Be it known that I, BLANCHE M.BURE, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at South Framingham, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of whi'ch the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment-fasteners; and its object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and artistic device of this character which is especially adapted for securing dress-shields in position or for any other desired purposes.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in providing a length of spring metal having a hooked end provided with a head, and extending from this end is an engaging portion, preferably formed of one or more coils and the tapered end of said portion being inclosed by the coils. These coils may be of any suitable form.
The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings,
'showing the preferred form of my invention,
and in whichv Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 are elevations of different forms of fasteners constructed in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 5 is an elevation showing the dress-shield secured in position by fasteners constructed in accordance with my invention.
Referring to the figures byA numerals of reference, 1 is a hook having a head 2 at its free end, while a strip 3 is formed integral with the other end of the hook and is provided with a lateral extension 4, having an integral V-shaped arm 5 at its outer end. The free end of this arm is pointed, as shown at 6, and the apex 7 of the arm is preferably in position adjacent the head 2.
In using this device the end 6 is inserted through a garment at a desired point, and said pin is turned so as to bring the garment in position upon the hook 1. The dress-shield or other article to be fastened to the garment is then placed upon the arm 5 and brought into position upon the lateral extension 4. If desired, two or more fasteners such as herein tions may be employed without departingfrom the spirit of the invention.
In Figs. 2, 3, and 4 I have shown modifications. In Fig. 2 the fastener is provided with a hook 8, having a head 9; but the strip 10 eX- tends therefrom at an incline, and the lateral extension 11 is arranged on the side thereof opposite to that from which the hook 8 projects. Moreover, the inverted-V-shaped arm 12 has a lateral extension 13, which is preferably parallel with the arm 11 and is pointed, as shown. The construction shown in Fig. 3 comprises a headed hook 14, a strip 15, and a bowed lateral extension 16, having a hooked arm 17 at its outer end. In Fig. 4 the fastener has a substantially S-shaped hook 18, but in other respects issimilar to the hook shown in Fig. 1. Y
The devices above described are all simple and inexpensive in construction, durable, and artistic, and form convenient means for securing dress-shields or other articles to a garment,
for fastening -a placket of a skirt, and for any other purposes for which a pin of this character would ordinarily be employed.
In the foregoing' description I have shown the preferred forms of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes IOO 2.
