UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAGE ALLEN PATTERSON, OF DANVILLE, VIRGINIA.
DISPLAYHSTAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 651,580, dated June 12, 1900.
Application filed September 30, 1899. Renewed May 10, 19001 Serial No. 16,198. (N0 model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, PAGE ALLEN PATTER- SON, a citizen of the United States, residingat Danville, in the county of Pittsylvania and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to display-stands for clothing, designed especially for use in stores and store-Windows, the object being to provide an inexpensive device of this character which will so support a suit of mens clothing as to display it to the best advantage and avoid wrinkling or disarrangement of the garments.
The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and its novel features will be defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a display-stand embodying the invention, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same in dotted lines with a suit of clothes arranged thereon.
The reference-numeral 1 designates a base or platform of any suitable construction, from which project two parallel hollow standards 2 and 3.
4 designates a block or frame from which depend two parallel rods 5 and 6. The lower ends of these rods fit within the hollow standards 2 and 3 and are adj ustably secured thereto by thumb-screws 7. The block or frame 4 inclines at a slight angle with relation to the rods 5 and 6, and it is surmounted by acappiece 8 of peculiar form. The cap-piece 8 is rounded at the edge 9, where it joins the block 4, and is formed with a semicircular projection or extension 10 at its front side, adapted to support the shoulder of a coat.
In front of the hollow standards 2 and 3 and midway between them a post or upright ll projects upwardly from the base l, provided at its upper end with a transversely-arranged block or support 12.
From the front of the base l projects an eX- tension 13, which is designed as asupport for a pair of shoes in proper relation below the trousers to display them to the best advantage.
The utility of the device is illustrated in Fig. 2. The trousers of a suit are hung across the support 12 to show the front of the lower portion thereof. The coat is suspended from the cap-piece 8, the extension 10 projecting into the armhole to support the shoulder neatly, and the vest is folded and so placed upon the top of the cap-piece that it will stand up in the folded position shown in Fig. 2. The exposed sleeve of the coat may be folded up and pinned in that position, as shown, or allowed to hang down, as desired.
By means of the screws the rods 5 and G and the block 4 may be adjusted vertically, as de-v sired, to accommodate the device to coats of different length.
I claim- 1. A display-stand for clothes, comprising a base or platform; hollow standards rising therefrom; rods adjustably supported in said standards; a block secured to the upper ends of the rods; a cap-piece secured to said block, and having a horizontal extension at one side adapted to project into the armhole of agarment, and an upright projecting from the base in front of the standards, and provided with a cross-bar or support.
2. A display-stand for clothes, comprising a base or platform; hollow standards rising therefrom, rods adjustably secured to said standards; a block secured to the upper ends of the rods; a cap-piece on said block having a rounded edge, and a projecting extension; a post or upright projecting from the base in front of the standards, and provided with a transverse block or support.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PAGE ALLEN PATTERSON.
