Description
P. T. ZIZI-NI. .GABMBNT HANGER. APPLICATION FILED JAN.'25; 1910.
77,921. v Patented Dec.6,1910.
n ummm PAUL T. ZIZINIA, OF NEW YORK, 1\`l'.` Y.
GARMENT-HANGEB.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL T. ZIzrNIA, a citizen of the United States, and residing at .New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Garment- Hangers, of which the following is a speciication, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to garment hangers and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class particularly designed for supporting or suspending trousers, but which may also be employed Afor supporting or suspending folded coats, dresses and other garments or articles.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a plan view showing my improved garment hanger in position for use and showing the method of connecting it with the door of a wardrobe or other support, a part of the latter being shown in section, and Fig. 2 a side view of the device as shown in Fig. 'l and showing also the suspending part thereof in different p0- sitions, one of which is shown in dotted lines.
In the drawing forming part of this s ecication, I have shown at a a support W ich may bea wall or the door of a room, or of a wardrobe, or a part of the interior of a wardrobe or any other device or article with which my improved garment hanger may be connected; and in the practice of my invention I provide two similar blocks I) which are adapted to be held in parallel position and a cross blockc which 1s secured transversely of the blocks b by screws d, which are passed through the block@ and through the blocks b into the door or other support t as clearly shown. The block c is provided in its inner face with an oblong recess c2 in which the blocks b fit, and centrally of its inner face with a deeper recess c3 and said blocks b are provided with a transverse pin,
bolt or screw b2'whi'ch passes therethrough.
Ialso provide a bar or arm e, one end of which is adapted to fit between the blocks b andvto move between said blocks and said end of the bar or arm e is provided with Specification of Lette rs Patent.
Patented Dec. e, icio.
longitudinal slot e2 through which the pin, bolt or screw b2 passes. The bar or arm e is provided with a plurality of rods f which are passed therethrough and project at both sides thereof and on which, in practice, the trousers -o-r other garments are hung as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, and the bar or arm e may be held in a horizontal position, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or may be raised into a substantially vertical position, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2. In order to raise the bar or arm e from the horizontal position shown in Fig. 2 it is only necessary to raise the outer or free end thereof and the inner end thereof, in this y the bar or arm e in a horizontal position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the said bar or arm is lifted vertically and lowered into a horizontal position and in this operation the pin, bolt or screw b2 moves backwardly in the slot e2 and the downward movement of the said bar or arm is limited by the transverse member or block c, and pin.
In practice the rods f are preferably passed through the bar or arm e, said bar or arm being provided with transverse apertures e3 for this purpose and saidrods and apertures are so made that the rods will closely tit in said apertures' but may be removed or detached from said bar or arm whenever necessary for packing or other purposes, and the parts b and c are also preferably made separately for a similar purpose.
With the construction shown and described the distance between the transverse .pin bz-on which the arm e is mounted and the wall or support a is greater than the thickness of one side of the end portion of said arm formed b the longitudinal slot 62,'
and by reason of t is construction whenthe arm e is raised lnto an upright position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the upper 1' end portion thereof is held at an angle to.
support for trousers and may be used in eitherof the positions shown and indicated in Fig. 2 and it ma also be used for supporting and suspen ing any other kind or class of articles and changes in and modifications of the construction described may be made Within the scope of the appended claim wthoutdeparting from the spirit of my invention, orsacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A hanger of the class described comprising two main block members held in parallel position, a cross block member placed transvversely of said main block member and recessed longitudinally to receive the same, screws passed through said transverse block member and throu h said main block members for securing t e hanger to an upright support and holding the main block member in parallel'position, said mainblock members being provided with the transverse block member and rearwardlythereof with a transverse pin, an arm one end portion of Whichfis freely movable between said main block members and provided with a longitudinal slot through which said pin passes whereby said arm may be held in a horizontal or upright position and rods passed through and removable from said arm.
In testimony that I claim the' foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing Witnesses this 18th day of January 1910.
