Description

all pin 5 may IEJ LECUS FENKELSLEIN, 015 NEW CLOTHES-STAND.
Specification of Letters IEatent.
Patented June 3,
Application filed august 1?, Serial No. 15,985.
To all whom may concern le it known that l, lllaueos FINKELSTEIN, acitizen oi the llnited States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of ltlana hattan. in the county and State of New York. have invented a new and Improved Clothes-E ttand, of which the following is full. clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to stands and particularly to stand for clothes, as for instance, hats, coats, pants, or ladies clothing, and has for an object the provision of an improved a 'rangement whereby the clothes will be held in proper-position and some of the clothes stretchedf Another object in view is to provide a stand with an adjustable transverse bar -for accounnodating the same to different size coats, the same being associated with sup porting and stretching meansgtor a pair of trousers.
In the accompanying drawing z Fi gure l is a side view of a stand embodying the invention; is an edge view of the upper part of the stand shown in Fig. 1; 3 is a fragmentary sectional view through the stand shown in Fig. 1, the same being taken on line Fig. l is an enlarged detail fragmentary perspective view showing one on end oi the supporting arm of the stand;
Fig. 0 is a detail fragmentary sectional view through 1 approximately on line Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. i but showing a slig it'ly modified term of the invention; Fig. i" is an edge view similar to 2 but showing an ar *angement ot hat brackprovided on the stand. Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a base of any desired kind to which is connected a standard 2, said standard being hollow, at least tor part of its length, for accommodating "the spring A slot t is provided opposite the .hollow poi ion of the standard so that the entend therethrough, said pin being connected with a sliding block t3 which is normally held iii the position shown in 5 by spring 3. it hook l is adapted to be hoolre'd over the pin 5 when a pair oi? trousers are arranged on the stand, said hook being connected with a clamp El clamping the lower end of the trousers 9. The normal position of the pin 5 as shown in c, is appreciable distance below the l lower en of the trousers 9 so that the pin 5 hlocl: must he moved upwardly slot against the action of spring 3 until the clamp .8, which may be of any desired construction, engages the lower endot trousers 9, whereupon the spring 3 will act on the trousers tor maintaining the same stretched and thus kept in proper condition.
The upper endof the trousers 9 is en gaged by any desired numher 0t clamps 10, which clamps are provided with hoolr" 11 designed to hook over the transverse bar and he supported thereby, bar 12 being rigidly connected with the standard 2 in any desired manner. Preferably the bar 12 is hollow at the outer ends or hollow for its full length as may he desired. i spring 13 is arranged adjacent each outer end, said spring acting on the inner end of'the shoul der member tor urging the same outwardly. The shoulder members lei freely reciprocate in the end of the bar 12 and are provided with pins 151 which project through slots iii so as to engage the l justable plate 20 which is provided with a clamping screw extends 1 slot 21 and engages the bar 19; so n the plate 20 in any desired post then the parts are arranged as shown. in Fig. l the shoulder members 1d:
may be moved inwardly a short distance but cannot move outwardly. if it should he desired to allow the shoulders to extend outwardly farther than shown in Fig. 4, screw 22 is loosened and plate 20 adjusted to the desired position and screw 22 tightened. The shoulders can then move as far as plate 20 will permit, plate 20 acting a stop tor limiting the outward movement of the shoulders hut not atl'ecting the inward movement. By providing the screw 22 and slot the plate 20 may be locked in any desired position along the slot 16 so as to allow the shoulders to he adjusted tor fitting dinerent sine garm It desired, hat raclrs or brackets ellCl 18 may he provided, as shown in a, the ame being connected either to the cross bar 12 or to the standards in any desired s l? and Ltd are manner. Preterahly, hracl connected with standard Q), or lea centrally of the stand, so as not to i tore with, he coat or with the trousers while allowing of the brackets seen a slight modified. 7i
all
follower or sliding block 6 but acts as a retractile spring for holding this member in a lower position and thereby holding in a stretched condition the trousers 9. The function of the structures shown in Figs. 5 and (3 is the same but the springs act in ditl'ercnt directions.
It is evident that other slight changes may be made in the arrangement near base 1 without departing from the spirit of the invention. I
It will also be evident that the arrangement oi the locking means for shoulders ll could be varied without changing the principle of spring-pressed and adjustable shoulder members for fitting coats or other arments of different sizes.
, hat I claim is 1. In a clothes stahd of the character described, a standard, a cross bar arranged adjacent the upper end of said standard, movable shoulder members arranged in said cross bar, said shoulder members being adapted to support a coat or the like, a
spring for each of the shoulder members for giving said members a tendency to move outwardly, and adjustable means for 'limiting the outward movement of the shoulder members without interfering with the inward movement thereof.
2. In a clothes stand of the character described, a supporting standard, a cross member arranged ad acent the top thereof, said cross member having hollow ends, an adjustable shoulder member extending into each of said hollow ends whereby the cross member may be varied in length for ac comnlodating coats or other garments of diilerent'sizes, a spring acting on each of said shoulder members for resiliently holdin the. same in an outer position, and an ad uStable plate arranged adjacent each of the shoulder members for limiting the movement of the shoulder members in one plate, arranged adjacent each end of saidcross bar adapted to engage said pins for limiting the outward movement of said pins,
and means for clamping the'plates in any desired adjusted position.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
, MARCUS FINKELSTEIN.
