TO LL WHOMIT MAY CONCERN: v
Beit known that I, WILLIAM E. HOUSTON, of' Birmingham, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Tapes for Hoop-Skirts; and I do hereby declare the follow ing, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to he a full, clear, and exact description of-the same, and which said drawings constitute part of' this specifica-tion, and represent, in
Figure I, a face lview.
Figure 2, a lsection on line a: x..
This invention relates to an improvement in the vertical tapes used in the manufacture of hoop-skirts, and consists in thepeculiar manner of forming the pockets.
In order to the better understanding of my invention, as well as to enable others to construct the same, I will proceed' to a description thereof` as illustrated in the accompanying drawin'gs.
The tape A is woven in the usual manner, having pockets B upon each side, leaving a space, C, in thecentre between the two pockets in which one set of the filling threads pass without intel-weaving in the warp, the tape being wove solid back of the said threads, as seen in fig. 2, where the body of' the tape is denoted in red, and the space C by the black dots.
The object ofthis invention is to form a tape so that the hoops may- ,be secured thereto in the man ner fully set forth in an application for patent for the same tiled in even date herewith, and is as follows:
The hoop is passed through the pockets in the usual manner, .passing between the filling threads and the tape, that is, leaving the filling threads in front of the hoop. -Then over these filling threads and the hoop a clasp is placed securing the tape vby the lling thread to the hoop. It is not essential that the pockets B extend entirely to the edge of the tape, although so represented, but there must be a pocket each side ofthe space C.
Having-thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l The tape formed with the thread spaces C, in combination with the pockets B B, substantially as and for the purpose specified, as an improved articleof manufacture.
W. E. HOUSTON.
