IMPROVEMENT IN GARTERS.
@its .tlgthnlt nfmi tutti this ettnt @that mit mating nur .uf tigt sans.
Beit known that I, JOSEPH A. LATHAM, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven, and State of Oonnecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Garters; and I do hereby declare the` following, when taken` in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference-marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exa-ct description of the same, andjwhich said drawings constitute partei' this specifi sent, in-' Figure 1, a top view, and in Figure 2 a section on line :e w. K
This invention relates to an improvement in garters, the object of which is to avoid the cording of' tbc limbs, so as to interfere with the circulation, and consists in the insertion of a metallic or similar spring within the band, and providing the band upon thc inner side with several cushions, so as to leave a space between tbc said cushions, the cushions only 4tou-ching the limb.
In order to the clear understanding of my invention, I will proceed to fullyr describe the same as illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Y i
A is the band, which encircle's the limb, provided at B with any suitable means Vof fastening tlietwo ends.
cation, and rcprc- Through the said band, or securely attached thereto, so as tobecome practically'a band, I arrange a metallic l spring, a, as seen in iig. 2, extending from. end to end, or nearly so, of the band, (other material than metaly may be used, as whalehone or rattan.) Upon the inner side of the band I arrange cushions O, more or less in:
number, the said cushions formed from any suitable uiateriaL- as felt or other thickisoft fabric, and so that, while vthe said cushions bear against the limb, the spring will sustain t limb, thus leaving spaces betweenA the cushions for circulation, and by this meansthe objection heretofore existing to the use of such articles is'entirely overcome.
I do not claim asl of my invention a ga'rter provided witha spring arranged longitudinally therein, as such is not new. v
Having thus fully described my invention, lwhat I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi- The herein-described =garter, constructed with the spring a, and provided with three or more cushions or pads C, with spaces between them,'upon the inside of the band, as an improved article of manufacture,
JOSEPH A.. LATHAM.
