Description

@uitrit tetes @sind @fittizi lHENRY o. BAKER, orV New YORK, N. Y.
Letters ,Patent Nof, lated February "2li, 186i'. i
dljcdgchuh .utanet tu in tlgesc fettenA lntnit mit netting plut ufrtlgc 'samt TO' ALL WHOM I'l MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, HENRY O. BAKER, of the City, County, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Mode of Raising and Sustaining Ladders at res. i V
The nature of my invention consists in raising and sustaining the ladder without its leaning again'st the building, thus enabling the liremeuto throw water into windows at a greater height with the samev ladder, and also to throw water through Athe windows on each floor from a level with each window. p
Toenable others skilled in the arts to make and use my invention', I proceed to describe my mode of eon struction and mode of elevating. p 'n Y V The frame, Figure Il, is made of two side pieces, of any size and length required, with rounds, B, properly framed into the side pieces; the number of the rounds and their distance apart to he as found most convenient, keeping in view the fact that the round next to the top round must be far enough from the top of Vthe frame, and the frame Wide enough, to admit ofthe top'of the ladder to be adjusted. The platform C must be adjusted to the top of the frame before elevating. The arms or supports D D of the Aframe are to be secured by swiveleyes, E E, at the top end, so as to allow of theirbeiug moved in any direction required. The platform C must be secured'by a strong iron bolt, H, passing throughthe sides of the frame, and also Veyes Von the under side of the platform. The two iron pins, F F, placed near `the end of the platform, are -to fasten over a round in the ladder when in use.` lThe Vstays G, used to secure the foot of the ladderto the frame, may he of iron chains or ropes, and should be attached from twoto four fect'from the 'gro-und. The supports for the frame, KK, are to hold the frame in position until the ladder is secured, which is .done by passing an iron holt, L, through the frame and the ladder. M M are iron hooks, which fasten into staples, N on .the end ofthe ladder, thus forming a guard to protect the men'on the platform.
Figure Pshows the position of the support and ladder when ready to be raised.
Figure R shows thesupporter and ladder in use.
Directions for Elevntng. i Place the top of the ladder inside ot' the top of the frame, and extend the arms D D as in iig. P, then secure the ladder and frame together with the iron bolt Hold the footof the frame securely; then bring the foot of the ladder toward the frame as far as may be requiretLkput in the stays G, and let down the platform C. In this way the structure is easily raised and made lready for 4use in a few minutes. i' i What I claim as newv and useful, and desire-to secure by Letters Patent, is The combination of the supporting frame, the ladder, the platform, and thebraees, the whole to be arranged as and for the purpose set forth.`
HENRY. BAKER.
