Be lit known that I, LEWIS HOVER, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, hare invented n new und useful Sad-Iron Holder; and I d hereby declare that the following is u. full, clear, und exact description'oi` the construction und operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing ond letters of reference marked thereon, making a purt of' this specification, in which- 4 Figure 1 is a perspective representation of my invention. 4

The nature 'oi' my invention consists in makingsueh an improvement to my sed-iron holder, patented the twenty-fourth day of April, 1866, ns will render it operative and less expensive. I accomplish this by attachs ing n. curved springr to both ends of the cylindrical holders, for the purpose of forcing them open the required distunce topa-ss uround'the handle of' the sod-iron. By this means the holder can be used much more conveniently than when constructed according tothe drawing set forth in the putcnt above referred to.

In order to enable others vskilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will describe its construction and operation. Y

A represents the semi-cylindrical holders, which nre used to grasp the handle of the sad-iron, and are B the reflectors, which, when shut together, as seen by the dotted lines C, prevent the hand from being burned hy means of' the heat from the iron, to which the handle E is attached. D shows the curved springs, which are secured 'to the ends of the holders A, and cnuse them to remain open unless held shut by the hund, as when operating the snd-iron. I 'nuke the springsD of any desired routeriul, but of only such strength as will open the holders A after the hand has beenremoved. The red lines E represent the hnndle of the common sad-iron, passing through the'holders A before they have been closed.

Operation. In order to use my device, when it is constructed as set forth, I put the semi-cylindrical holders over the handle of the sad-iron, n-t'ter which the force 'of the hand, when using pressure enough to work the iron, will close the holders and press them around the handle closely enough to bring the deflectorsB together so as to prevent the heat of the sad-iron from burning the hand, as set forth.

Havingthus Afully described my device, I do not claim the cylindrical holders A, nor the deectors B; but what I do claim, und desire to secure by Letters Patent of theeUnited States, is-
