SEBASTIAN W'ALTER, OF MILXYAUKEE, W'ISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO THE KIECKHEFER BROTHERS COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
WRINGER ATTACHMENT FOR WASHTUBS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 614,678, dated November 22, 1898.
Application filed April 5,1897. Serial No. 630,672. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern: I
Be it known that I, SEBASTIAN WALTER, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of lVisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in lVringer Attachments for WVashtubs, of which the following is a description, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to improvements in wringer attachments for washtubs.
The invention is particularly applicable for attachment to galvanized washtubs; and the object had in view is to provide an improved construction for attaching a wringer to a galvanized tub as readily as to a wooden tub, the attachment being of such character as to be readily adjusted to and removed from the tub, and also when applied to the rim of the tub to be adjustable, so as to adapt it to different sizes of wringers.
Having the above in View the invention consists of the devices and parts or their equivalents, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a fragment of the upper portion of a washtub with my attachments applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a detail View of one of the attachments, and Fig. 4 is a vertical section through Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the letter A indicates a tub, preferably a galvanized-iron washtub. The upper edge or rim of this tub is turned over outwardly to form an annular bead B.
The improved attachments consists of a strip or block C and end metallic straps D D, secured to the strip by means of rivets E. The strip 0 is advisably of wood and is curved slightly to conform to the cylindrical shape of the body of the tub. The upper ends of the straps are extended upwardly above the upper edge of the strip and are bent over toward the strip or block to form the hooks F F. The strip 0 is of the necessary thickness to permit a wringer to be readilysecured thereto when the attachment is adjusted to the tub.
I preferably employ two of the attachments in connection with each tub. By thus employing two attachments I avoid the necessity of using a much longer strip of wood, which would be required in case only one attachment were used, in order to conform to the length of the wringer. A longer strip of wood than those shown on the accompanying drawings is obviously open to objection owing to the liability of its warping and straightening out, and thereby not conforming to the shape of the tub. 7
When two separate attachments are used, it is also to be noted that from the fact that they are readily adjustable along the rim of the tub they may be brought closer together or farther apart and thereby made readily adaptable to wringers of different sizes.
In adjusting the attachments it is of course only necessary to pass the hooks F over the annular bead B, and the inner faces of the strips 0 will then lie against and conform to the body of the tub and form an augmented or thickened surface for the attachment of the wringer.
It will be noted that the thickness of the strip or block C and the outward bulge of the bead are so proportioned that the strip when the hooks are engaging the bead is removably suspended on the outside of the tub below said bead, whereby the inner face of the strip is made to fit squarely against the outer side of the tub.
WVhat I claim as my invention is The combination, with a metallic wash tub or boiler, having a rounded outwardly-extending upper edge or bead, of an attachment comprising a strip or block, and a strap or straps secured to the strip or block, and projecting for adesired distance above the upper edge of the strip, the upper extremity or extremities of said strap or straps being bent over toward the strip or block to form an inwardly-extending hook or hooks adapted to engage the upper rounded edge or bead of the tub, the thickness of the strip and the outward bulge of the bead being so proportioned that the strip, when the hooks are engaging the bead, is removably suspended on.
the outside of the tub below said bead, whereby the inner face of the strip is made to fit squarely against the outer side of the tub.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SEBASTIAN WALTER.
