UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. BARROWS, OF VVILLIMANTIC, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN MUSTACHE-GUARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,125, dated May 28,1878; application filed January 8, 1877. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. BARROWS, of Willimantic, in the county of Windham and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mustache- Protectors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a view of my'improved mustache guard or protector as applied for use. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, showing it as stamped from one piece of metal; and Fig. 3 is an end view of the same, showing the clamps bent into position.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters.
This invention'relates to a certain improvement in mustache-guards; and it consists of a plate, preferably of sheet metal, stamped with fingers, one extending up over the upper edge of the drinking vessel and pressing against its exterior, by which the plate is brought below the rim or edge of a vessel or cup, and the other fingers reaching down and pressing against the interior of said cup or vessel, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, A refers to the guard or protector, stamped, both it and its means of attachment, from a single piece of metal, as seen in Fig. 2, promoting simplicity and cheapness.
The above-referred-to means of attachment consist of the clamps a a a a. The upper clamps an are curved so as to overlap and clamp the exterior of the cup, and the lower clamps a a curved so as to clamp the interior ghereof, as will be readily understood from It will be observed that by this construction a substantial and secure attachment between the guard or protector and cup is effected, preventing the accidental detachment of the guard from the cup, and the clamps acting mutually to strengthen each other, their tendency to break off will be lessened.
The guard may be shaped to conform to any desired configuration to beautify its appearance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A mustache guard or protector'composed of a plate, A, stamped with fingers a and a, the
their lower ends to press against the inner-- andouter sides of the vessel, respectively, sub-- stantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES H. ,BARROWS.
