Be it known that I, EDWARD ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States,'residing at Sun dance, in the county of Crook and State of Wyoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Clips; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has relation to hat-clips, and more particularly to that class of devices used for preserving and retaining the crease in soft felt hats 5 and the object of the invention is to provide a device capable of adj ustment to adapt it to hats of various sizes.

With this object in view the invention con sists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be l1ereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a hat inverted, showing the clip in position 5 and Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the clip.

In said drawings, 1 and 2 denote the two members of the clip, each of which is in the form of a bail and has at its ends coiled eyes 3, terminating in opposing prongs 4. The side members of one bail extend through the eyes of the other bail, and thus afford a longitudinal adjustment of the two members with respect to each other to lengthen or shorten the device. The side pieces of each member have a slight spring to them, so that when the clip is engaged with. the crease of the hat, as shown in Fig. 1, the prongs will be embedded into the felt, and thus hold the device in position.

By the employment of my improved hatclip the crease in a hat is preserved, thereby making it unnecessary for a person to crease his hat every time it is Worn, which soon causes the hat to break at the ends of the crease.

By being made adjustable the device may be attached to hats of different sizes, so that it is only necessary for the dealerto carry one size of device to suit the demands of his trade.

Although I have specifically described the construction and relative arrangement of the several elements of my invention, I do not desire to be confined to the same, as such changes or modifications may be made as clearly fall within the scope of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A hat-clip consisting of two sliding members connected together and having a sliding adjustment, said members being provided with opposing embedding-prongs, substantially as set forth.

2. A hat-clip consisting of two bails, the ends of which are provided with eyes and prongs, the eyes of one bail engaging the sides of the other bail, substantially as set forth. In testimony whereof I-hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
