lTo all whom it' may concern.-
Be it known that I, Josnon F. HAMMOND, of Providence, in the county ot' Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Carriage- Jaeks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact. description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, inaking partof this specitication, in which- Figure l is a. side elevation, and Fig. 2 is an end elevation, ofthe movable standard.
In the several figures the saine letters are used in referring' to identical parts.
The base A supports the standards and the lever. The standard B is pernianently attached to the base, and sustains the weight of the object raised in coniuuetion with the le ver E. l
The movable standard U is placed in front of the stationary standard, their opposing faces matching,` neatly, Iand it is sustained by stirrups B', secured to the standard B, which pass in front of the standard C, so as to allow it to play freely up and down.
The standard C has a series ot` holes bored in its hind face to receive the point ot' an ad justable pin, D, upon which the axle of the carriage rests.
The standard C is raised and lowered by means of the lever E, which is bent at right angles, or nearly so, as shown in Fig. 1. The fuleruin of this lever is formed in the elbonr on a bolt passing` through it and the lugs E on the base A.
Aa bolt to the link F.
dated October 23, 1866.
The short arm of the lever E is fastened by The leverE is a lever of the first order, and the opposite end of the link F is, in like manner, fastened to one end of a lever ot the second order, G, formed in the arc ot` a circle, and attached by a bolt in a. recess formed for the purpose in the fixed standard B.
The lever G passes through a slot in the movable standard C, which it sustains, resting;a upon a. friction-wheel, H, placed in said Vslot above the lever.
The changes in the positions ot' the movable parts are represented in the drawings b v the black and red lines, the latter ot' which show the standard raised by depressing;` the long end ot' the lever E.
The Weight, when raised, is sustained upon the bolts G and E', the former having' about two-thirds thereof.
That I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A carriage-jack with a fixed standard, P, movable standard O, levers E and G, and link F, constructed and combined substantially as Set forth.
In testimony Whereofl have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
