SUPPORT FOR SLIDING DOORS, CURTAINS, 84.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,513, dated January 19, 1897. Application filed August 28, 1896. Berial No. 604,243. (No model.)
To to whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM ABRAHAM, of Fairchild, and WILLIAM SCHROEDER, of Augusta, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Support for Sliding Doors, Curtains, &c. of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved support for sliding doors, curtains, and the like, and which is simple and durable in construction, not liable to get out of order, and arranged to securely suspend the door, curtain, or the like and to permit of conveniently sliding the same to the desired place.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement, parts being in section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the double hook forming the hanger, and Fig. 4 is a transverse section of the tube and its support.
Referring to the drawings, B is a hanger secured to the upper end of the door or ourtain A and extending upwardly through the slot 0 into the interior of the tube 0 supported on brackets D D attached to the door or window casing E, on which the door or curtain A is used. The tube 0 forms a track for aball F having an annular groove forming an integral axle F on the ball F and this axle is engaged by the hanger B, so as to hold said hanger properly in place on the ball, the latter supporting the hanger and consequently the door or curtain from the tube 0 The slot 0 and the groove of the ball are in alinement with each other, so that the doors or curtains A can be conveniently moved forward or backward to open or close the same, the ball traveling in the slotted tube as its track.
The hanger B is preferably made in the form of a double hook having its members B B mounted to swing on a pivot B adapted to pass through the curtain A and carrying on its outer end a washer G.
It will be seen that when the hook members B and B are opened, as shown in Fig. 3, then the ball F can be readily inserted and engaged by the said hook members by closing the latter, so that the hanger B is supported from the ball at its axle F and the ball travels in the slotted tube 0 the members of the hooks extending through a slot 0 in said tube. V
In the drawings but one hanger and ball are shown, but it will be understood that two or more will be employed for a door or curtain. By the arrangement described the door, curtain, or the like can be readily moved into the desired position.
The entire device is very neat in appearance, is not liable to get out of order, and can readily be applied for various purposes besides the ones mentioned.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Asupport for sliding doors, curtains and the like, comprising a slotted tube forming a track, a grooved ball traveling in the said tube and having its groove registering with the slot of the tube, and a hanger formed of overlapping hook-shaped members engaging said grooved ball and extending through the said slot to carry the door, curtain or the like, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a support for sliding doors, curtains and the like, the combination of a slotted tube forming a track, a grooved ball traveling in the tube, and a hanger formed of two members pivoted together and provided with oppositely projecting hooks extending up through the slot of the tube and engaging" the members, substantially as shown and degroove of the ball, substantially as described. scribed.
A support for doors or curtains, provided LIAM ABRAHAM with a hanger ha-vin two hooked members 7 J Z adapted to engage a grooved ball, a pivot for ILLIAM SOHROEDER the said members, and awasher on said pivot, \Vitnesses: to clamp the door or curtain in place between G. \V. PAUL,
the Washer and the pivot end of the hook B. G. ERNER.
