Abstract

A curtain hanger which can be made of selected lengths and which avoids derailment or dragging of the runners. A selected number of standard length channel segments are interconnected by fishplates to provide for variable length hangers. The segments are provided with a trackway along the floor for guiding wheeled runners. A stop in the trackway prevents escape from the ends of the runners.

CURTAIN HANGER This invention relates to a curtain hanger and more particularly to a curtain rail and runner therefor.

One well known type of curtain rail and runner provides a groove in the runner for sliding on a flange or flanges of a rail. In this type of arrangement the runner becomes inclined in the operation of the curtain and produces a high friction drag. It is an object of this invention to produce a curtain rail and runner which avoids a high friction drag when the device is operated to open or close a curtain.

It is a further object of this invention to produce a device as aforesaid in which plural segments of rails can be combined to produce long rails.

It is a further object of this invention to produce a device as aforesaid in which the segments can be easily mounted on a support.

It is a further object of this invention to produce a device as I aforesaid in which stops to prevent over travel of the runner can be easily mounted at the ends of the rail.

With reference to the drawing there is illustrated a curtain hanger comprising a channel 2 with cross section having an upper plate 4 with a depending flange 6 and a lower plate 8 having a pair of oppositely

inclined flanges

10 and 12 defining a trackway. The upper and lower plate are connected by a wall comprising an inwardly inclined portion 70 attached to upper plate 4, an outwardly inclined wall portion 72 secured to portion 70 and an inwardly inclined wall portion 74 secured between portion 72 and lower plate.

A runner comprising a pendant 14 is provided with a boss 16 and a supporting arm 18. A wheel 20 is rotatably mounted on the boss for travel along the trackway. The arm is provided with a ring 22 fitted through an opening therethrough to support a curtain vertically under the wheel.

The channel 2 can be made of great length to accommodate a particular curtain but is preferablly made of a plurality of shorter segments fitted in end to end abutting relation with a fishplate 24, of a shape congruent to the inner surface of the channel, pressed between the

The ends of the channel are provided with stoppers to prevent the escape of wheel 20 from the ends of the trackway and to support the end of the curtain. Each stopper comprises a tube 26 having a shape similar to the outer surface of the channel and a stirrup 28 for supporting a curtain clip. A U shaped bar 30 is supported with one leg in the trackway and the other leg against a portion 32 of the stopper. A screw 34 is fitted through an opening in lower plate 36 of the tube and is threaded through the bight of bar 30. Tightening of the screw will urge the con acting

The channel is mounted on a support 41 by a plurality of brackets spaced longitudinally along the support. Each bracket comprises a bar 42 having side flanges 43, laterally bent sections 45, a lip 44 overlaying a portion 46 of the channel, and a perforated flange 46 for receipt of a screw 48. It is preferred to form the runner and stopper of synthetic plastics in order to reduce noise and provide cheapness of manufacture, but obviously other materials such as metals could also be use-d.

We claim:

1. A curtain hanger comprising a channel member including a pair of parallel flanges within said member defining a trackway, and a runner comprising a pendant and a wheel rotatably mounted thereon for travel in said trackway, further including a stopper mounted on each end of the channel member, each stopper comprising a tube encompassing the end portion of the member, the inner surface of the tube having a shape congruent to an outer surface of the channel member, a hook supporting loop depending from the tube and means within the tube bearing against the inner wall thereof opposite said inner surface for urging the congruent surfaces into tight engagement, wherein the urging means comprises an inverted U shaped clip having one leg of the U positioned in the trackway, the other leg of the U bearing against an adjacent wall of the tube, and a threaded member extending through the tube in threaded engagement with the bight of the U having a head abutting the bottom of the tube for causing the U shaped member to apply force against the tube for urging it into tight contact with the channel member.
