INT STANLEY, OF LOVINGTON, ILLINOIS, ASSIG-NOR TO LOVINGTON 'MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF LOVINGTON, ILLINOIS.
HANGER.
Patented July 10, 1906.
Application filed March 6, 1906. Serial No- 304,483.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, INT STANLEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lovington, in the county of Moultrie and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Hanger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to window curtains and shades; and its object is to provide a new and improved hanger more especially designed for supporting the curtain-rod and the window-shade and arranged for convenient-and secure attachment to the windowframe. s
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference inclicate corresponding parts in all the views. I
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the improvement as applied. Fi 2 is an enlarged side elevation of one of the brackets, part being in section; and Fig. 3 is a like View of the other bracket.
The improved hanger consists, essentially, of a pair of brackets A and A, preferably made from flat steel stamped or pressed out into the desired shape, each bracket being provided with an attaching-flange A adapt ed to rest against the window-frame B and fastened thereto by nails, screws, or other suitable means. The brackets A and. A are also provided with integral bearings C and C for receiving and supporting a curtain pole D, carrying the curtain E, and the said bearings C and C being provided at their bottoms with slots C for the passage of the curtain E, it being understood that the curtain-pole D is preferably of the slotted construction, having interior means for holding the curtain E in place, the curtain projecting through the slot in the bottom of the pole D and passing through the slots C in the bearings C and C. The brackets A and A are also provided with integral bearings F and F for receiving the trunnions of the shade-roller G of the usual construction, one of the trunnions being mounted to turn in the bearing F and the other trunnion being held against turning in the bearing F.
By reference to Fig. 1 it will be seen that the bearings O F and C F are arranged in the same transverse plane, and by reference to Figs. 2 and 3 it will be noticed that the bearings C and C project beyond the front ends of the bearings F and F, so that the shade G is held nearer to the window than the curtain E, and consequently the shade and the curtain do not interfere with each other on the window.
If desired, the attaching-flanges A of the brackets A and A may be provided with upwardly-extending hooks H, adapted to be hooked onto the top of the upper cross-bar B of the window-frame B, so as to securely hold the brackets A and A in position. order to hold the brackets A A against sidewise movement when using the hooks H, the bearings C C are provided with flanges C snugly fitting the curtain-pole D. In this case the fastening devices for the attachingflanges A may be dispensed with, if desired.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the brackets described, and shown in the drawings are very simple and durable in construction, can be cheaply manufactured, and readily a plied to the window-frame to support bot 1 a curtain-pole and a windowshade and to allow of extending the curtain through the slots 0 beyond the brackets, as indicated in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a hanger for curtains a bracket consisting of a plate having a lower forwardlyprojecting portion provided with a bearing for a window-shade roller and having above said. portion a forwardly-projecting portion integral with and projecting outward beyond the said lower portion and provided at its outer end with an opening forming a bearing for a curtain-pole and slotted at its bot tom and having surrounding said opening a flange extending in the direction of the axis of said opening, the said upper and lower portions of the plate and the projecting flange of the upper portion being integral, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A hanger for a curtain-pole and windowshade comprising a plate having an attaching or base flan e provided at its upper end with a forwarcfiy-projecting Wi11 notched for a supporting hook, the said pIate being provided With forwardly-projecting portions projecting Wing of said base-flange, substanprovided respectively With bearings for a tially as set forth.
curtain-pole and a Window-shade roller, the In testimony whereof I have signed my curtain-pole bearing joeing slotted at its botname to this specification in the presence of 5 tom and having a lateral flange to embrace tWo subscribing Witnesses.
the curtain-pole, and a hanger havlng a hook l INT STANLEY at 1ts upper end to engage a Window-frame,
bent at its loWer end into connection With the base-flange of the plate, and fitting be 10 tween its ends in the notch in the forwardly- Witnesses W. I. MOMULLIN,
IDA E. BEAHAN.
