Description

0. W. JACOBS. TROUSERS PROTECTOR.
Patented Apr. 2,1895.
(No Model.)
INVENTOR C. Wdacobs,
ATTORNEY THE NORRIS r-z-nzws co. PHOYO-LXTHOY, WASHINGTON, n c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN JACOBS, OF DENVER, COLORADO,
TROUSERS-PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,697, dated April 2, 1895.
Application filed eptember 19, 1894- Serial No. 523,442. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN W. JACOBS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Denver,in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers- Protectors; and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in trousers protectors, and is specially designed for use by riders of bicycles.
The device is intended to be worn on the inside of each trousers leg, and extends from the foot to the calf of the leg. It is held in place by spring clasps attached to the top and bottom of the device. The clasp at the top passes around the limb of the wearer below the knee, While the clasp at the bottom passes under the shoe on the inside and upward on the outside where it engages the shoe and maintains the lower extremity of the device in place.
My improved trousers protector will now be described in detail, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which is illus trated an embodiment thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in detail. Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line a::c, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side view in perspective illustrating the device in use. Fig. 4 is a rear view of the device applied.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the views.
Let the numeral 5 designate a skeleton frame preferably composed of wire and provided with a covering6 of some suitable material, preferably water proof, or impervious to moisture. This covering is secured in any suitable manner, as by turning the material down on the inside and sewing through the overlapping edge. e
The device is made of suitable size or area to fully protect the trousers leg below the knee and on the inside.
To the top of the device is attached a spring clasp 7 adapted to pass around the calf 0f the limb and support the protector in position.
To the lower extremity of the device is secured the spring hook or clasp 8 adapted to pass under the shoe and maintain the lower extremity of the device in the proper position.
It will be observed that I do not limit myself in this application to the precise shape of the device shown, as I am aware that many other designs may be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention. Neither do I limit myself to the exact form of clasps or fastening means shown, but desire to cover any suitable means for accomplishing this purpose.
Havingthus described my invention, what I claim is a As an improved article of manufacture, the herein described garment protector comprising the skeleton wire frame, narrow at the top and increasing in width toward the bottom, said frame being provided with a covering of water proof material and having a horizontal spring clasp at the top and a vertical spring hook at the bottom, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN W. JACOBS.
