IMPROVED BED-SPRING.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,579, dated April 3, 1866.

To all whom it may concern.'

Be it known that I, DELos V. GRANDALL, of Canton, Jackson county, State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bed-Springs; and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof', reference being had to vtheaccompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in inserting the spiral end of the cone-shaped spring into the aperture in a strip or slat and wedging it tightly, by a round wedge or stopper, which gives greater spring or straighter motion to the spring, and keeps the lower end of the spring` more permanently in the slat and prevents it working loose.

Arepresents the cone-shaped bed-spring, of coiled wire, the smaller end inserted in a strip or slat, B, having a round aperture, O. A tapering stopper or wedge, D, is then driven into the aperture O, tightening permanently the Wire coil in the aperture, holding it firmly, and giving the proper upright spring to the bed-spring, instead of a side or lateral motion.

I am aware of the end of the wire being driven into the slat, and also of a key or wedge being used to tighten the wire; but these Ido not claim.

Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

I nserting the coiled wire in the aperture C of the slat B, and fastening it by the stopper D, as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.
