MOLDERS FLASK.
No. 483,596. Patented 061:. 4, 1892.

UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFI E.
FREDERICK BAUGH, OF ALLIANCE, OHIO.
MOLDERS FLASK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,596, dated October 4, 1892.
' Application filed November 30, 1891. Serial No. 413.487. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK BAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Molders Flasks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the flask. Fig. 2 is a view showing portions of the sides of the flask in section and showing the location of the partition. Figs. 3 and 4C are views showing the adjustable corners. Fig. 5 is a detached view of the partition-retaining bolt.
The present invention has relation to molders flasks; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A and A represent the sides of the flask proper and may be of any desired length and width, reference being had to the size of flask desired to construct. The sides A are provided at one end with the inclined shoulders or ends a, which are located as illustrated in Fig. 1. The opposite ends of the sides A are entered into the grooves b, said grooves being formed in the sides A. The sides A are each provided with the extensions B, which extensions are provided upon their inner sides with the inclined faces a, the inclination of which corresponds with the inclination of the shoulders or ends a, and are so formed for the purpose of bringing the meeting faces of the inclined portions and 0 together when the sides A and A are placed in the position illustrated in Fig. 1. Upper and lower strengthening-ribs A A are provided at or near the top and bottom of the sides A, as shown in Fi 1.
For the purpose of securely locking the flasks the keys 0 and D are provided. The keys G extend through the staples d, which staples are securely attached to the sides A, and are located substantially as shown in Fig. A and extend through the openings 01, as illustrated in Fig. 1.
For the purpose of providing more wedgesurface, or in other words, a double-wedge surface, the inclined lugs e are formed on the outer sides of the sides A, which lugs may be formed integral with the sides A and for the purpose of providing a continuous inclined face for the inner edge of the keys 0 the grooves f are formed in the sides A, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3.
For the purpose of preventing the diiferent keys from becoming detached and lost the pins g are provided, which pins are attached to the narrow portions of the keys.
The partition E may be located as illustrated in Fig. 1, and is for the purpose of forming different compartments in the flask. In the drawings but one partition is shown; but it will be understood that any desired number of partitions-such as E-may be employed without departing from the nature of my invention. One end of the partition E is provided with the open groove h,which groove is formed in the head h,substantially as shown in Fig. 1. The open groove h is for the purpose of receiving the head F of the bolt F, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The bolt F is provided with the slot k,which slot is for the purpose of receiving the key as illustrated in Fig. 1. The opposite end of the partition E is provided with the staple 7.0 which staple is for the purpose of receiving the key 70 as illustrated in Fig. 2. The object and purpose of providing the open groove h in one end of the partition and the staple k at the opposite end is to provide a means for removing the partition E by lifting the grooved end of the partition E.
It will be understood that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to open the flask proper, and thereby free the sides A and A from the material coming in contact with the inner faces of said sides.
At the corners provided with the inclined faces a and c the keys D are provided, which keys are for the purpose of assisting in looking the sides A and A at any desired point of adjustment.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a molders flask, the combination of sides A, provided with slotted extensions B, each extension B having an inclined face 0, sides A, provided with shoulders, each shoulder having an inclined face (1, devices secured to the sides A and extending through the slotted extensions B, and means engaging said devices to lock the sides together.
2. The combination, with the sides A and A, one of the latter provided with a slot,'of a partition provided with an open undercut groove, a headed bar F, engagingsaid groove and extending through the slot in the side A, and a key engaginga slot in'saidbar, substantially as described;
3. The combination, with sides A and slotted sides. A, of a partition provided Withan vided with shoulders having inclined 'faces,
the sides A, provided with slotted extensions B, having inclined faces, staples secured to the sides A and extending through the slotted extensions, grooves formed in the extensions, and keys engaging said grooves and said staples, substantially as described.
5. The combination, with sides A and slotted sides A ,of a partition provided with an undercut groove at one end, a headed bar engaging said groove and extendedthrough one of the slotted sides A, a key engaging a slot in said bar, a staple secured to the other end ofv the partition and extending through the other of said slotted sides A, a keyenga ing said staple; shoulders formed on the sides A, slotted extensions on the sides A, said inclined faces, staples's'ecured to'the sides A, extending through the 'slott'ed'ext'ensions B,
and akey'engagiiig said staples, substantially as described.
' In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my namein the presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK BAUGH.
