Description

G. RBNFRO.
(No Model() BEDSTEAD.
No. 470,445. Patented Mar. 8, 1892;.
atto/w1 ma NITED STr-rrns PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE RENFRO, OF WAGONER, INDIAN TERRITORY.
BEDSTAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 470,445, dated March 8, 1892.
Application iiled August 28, 1891. Serial No. 403,949. (No model.)
v following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention has relation to bedsteads; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement ot its parts. v
In the accompanying' drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a 4loedstead with my invention attached thereto. Fig. 2 is an elevation of one side of the bed with the other side and the head and foot boards removed. Fig. 3 is one ot' the slats with the lng attached. Fig. 4 is a section on line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
My invention is described as follows: To the side rails A are secured by screws or bolts the thin metallic rail-braces and Slat-bearers ct, running the entire length of the rails A, with their ends extending beyond the ends of the said rails A, terminating in the hooks a2,
which are adapted to enter slots cut in the,
bed-posts and catch over the cross-rods a3, said rail-braces and slat-bearers being` secured to the inner faces of the said rails A. The said metallic rail-braces and Slat-bearers a are at suitable intervals provided with laterally-extending Slat-seats d4, made integral with the said braces and extending inwardly from said side rails. Said seats may extend an inch or more from the inner face of said rails, and' thus give a good seat for the ends of the slats, while the brace itself need not be more than one-fourth of an inch thick, thus being light, While yet strong. One, two, or
more of said Slat-seats are provided with rei cesses a5, cut at their outer ends. In the slatseats not provided with said recesses I use an ordinary slat; but in the seats provided With said recesses I use a slat provided at each end with a lug (See Fig. 3.) Said lugs enter said recesses and serve to keep the bedstead from spreading apart and allowing the slats to drop out. Thus my bedstead is securely held together in both directions, and the metallic braces and Slat-bearers passing the entire length of the rail A and secured thereto makes the bedstead very strong and durable.
Having described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters 1. In a bedstead, substantially as shown and described, the combination of the head and foot' pieces having in their corner-posts the usual slots and cross-rods a3, side rails A, railbraces and slat-bearers a, secured to said rails and having the extending hook ends a2, hooking on cross-rods a3, and laterally and inwardly extending Slat-seats at, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
2. In abedstead, substantially as shown and described, the combination of the head and foot pieces having in their corner-posts the usual slots and cross-rods a3, side rails A, railbraces and slatbearers a, secured to said rails and having the extending hook ends a2, hooking on crossrods d3, and laterally and inwardly extending slat-seats d4, and recesses a5 cut in the outer ends of said seats, and slats having lugs b, substantially as shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
