A J. SANDERS. DRAFT ATTACHMENT FOR HARROWS Patented Oct. 11

JASON SANDERS, OF GORDONSVILLE, KENTUCKY.
DRAFT ATTACHMENT FOR HARROWS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.'371,4'79, dated October 11, 1887.
Application filed August l7, 1887. Serial No. 247,201. (No mode To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Jason SANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gordonsville, in the county of Logan and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Draft Attachments for Harrows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to barrows; and it consists, more particularly, in an improved draft attachment, hereinafter fully deseribed,w11ereby the proper draft is exerted upon the harrow while the latter is permitted to move regularly and evenly along the ground.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a harrow embodying my improvements. Fig. 2is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same.
A A refer to the converging side bars of the barrow-frame, which are braced by means of transverse bars B B. The forward ends ofthe bars A A are separated, so as to form a 1011- gitudinal slot, (4.
G designates a short tongue-section, which has secured to its upper and lower sides metallic plates 2) b, which are so arranged as to form loops 0 0 at the respective ends of said tongue. The rear loop, 0, is pivotally attached to a ring, (1,011 the front cross-bar, B,while the front loop, a, is left for the connection with the team. It will thus be seen that the tongue 0 is capable of a vertical movement in said slot a, which movement is limited by a transverse plate, 6, on the under side of the forward portion of the bars A A, whileayoke shaped metallic strap,f, on the upper side ofsaid bars, limits the upward movement of said tongue.
By the herein-described construction the tongue is permitted to rise and fall with the motion of the team without such motion being imparted to the harrow, which is thus enabled to movesteadilyand regularlyalongtheground, so that the teeth always remain at a uniform depth.
My improvement is simple and inexpensive, and of such character as to be readily applied to existing forms of harrows.
I claim- 1. The combinatiou, with aharrow, ofa frame having a vertical slot at its front end, a crossbar, B, bracing said frame in the rear of said slot and located in the same horizontal plane. and a tongue-section located in said slot and pivotally connected to said crossbar, substantially as described.
2. The combination, in a harrow, ofa frame vertieallyslotted at its front, a bar, 13, a tonguesection located in said slot and pivotally connected to the bar P, and upper and lower plates, ef, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two wit nesscs.
JASOI SANDERS.
