UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR E. ROBINSON, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ON E-HALF TO LOUIS L. MORRISON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DEVICE FOR ATTACHING SPLASHER-MATS TO WASH-STANDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part; of Letters Patent No. 358,626, dated March 1, 1887.
Application filed June 8, 1886. Serial No. 204,501.
To aZZ whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR E. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at St.Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improve ments in Devices for Attaching Splash-Mats to Wash-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for attaching splash-mats upon the backs of Washstands; and the purpose thereofis to provide a simple, inexpensive, and tasteful device, which may be easily and quickly applied to any kind ofwashstand, and which shall not only be adjustable vertically thereon, but capable of serving as a towelrack, as well as a support for the splashmat.
My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter fully set forth, and definitely pointed out in the claim annexed to this specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a Wash-stand provided with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is aperspective view of the parts comprising my invention detached.
In the said drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates the wash-stand having a back plate or board, 2, of any usual construction.
Upon this back plate I mounta clasp, 3, composed preferably, of some suitable metal, plated or covered with non-corrosive material, or formed wholly of any substance not easily oxidizable. This clasp is composed of two parallel parts, 4, connected by a horizontal piece, 5, the latter having a slot, 6, formed therein near the angle formed by the rearward plate,4. This slot is of such length as to enable the ap plication of the clasp to back plates of varying widths, as hereinafter shown.
Through the slot 6 is passed an upright, 7, formed of any suitable material and of any desired length. Upon the upper end thereof is mounted a cross-head, 8, extending in each di- (No model.)
rection equally, and ofa length to give support to the size of mat to be used. Two, three, or more studs, 9, are set in the front or back, as may be desired, of the cross-head, to receive and support the mat.
The upright 7 is held at any point to which it may be adjusted by a set-screw, 10, tapped through the rear plate, 4.
It will readily be seen that not only is the support adjustable and the clasp adapted to a stand of any size, but that it may be applied without in the slightest degree injuring the back plate, and may be used as a mat-support, a towel-rack, or for both purposes.
Heretofore a wall-protector has been composed of two uprights secured by sockets or eyebolts to the rear of a wash-stand and connected by horizontal bars, the top one of which serves to suspend the splasher; but such is not my invention.
A device for supporting a lamp-carrying arm has also been composed of aflanged clampplate and a set-screw tapped in one flange, the clamp-plate having an orifice through which passes the shank of a socket, in or on which the lamp-carrying arm is swiveled, for the purpose of setting up the shank by the setscrew rigidly against any object embraced between the shank and the other flange on the clampplate. Such, therefore, I do not claim.
What I claim is The combination, in a wall-protector and towel-rack, of the upright 7, having at its upperend the attached crosshead 8, having spurs 9, and extending from the upright in each direction substantially equal with the slotted clasp 3, and the setscrew 10, tapped through the rear plate of the clasp, substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR E. ROBINSON.
