J. P. POPE.
NEGKTIB FASTENER.
. Patented Feb. 9, 18.86.
- DWBNTOR. ya@ BY CLU/ml ATTORNEYS.
WITNESSES N. PETERS. pholUllwgmphur. Wnshlnginn. D4 CV irnn STATES JOHN F. POPE, OF OTTUMVA, IOVA.
'NECKTIEwFASTENER SPECFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 335,716, dated February 9, 1886,
Application tiled May 14, 1885. Serial No. 165,450. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN F. Porn, of Ottumwa, in the county of Vapello and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scarfs for Neck-Wear, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the frame of a scarf for neck-Wear and its covering, whereby the scarf may be adjusted and retained in position, and ythe frame removed from its holder without injury to the outer covering or scarf proper.
rlhe invention consists in a slotted plate adapted to be attached to the collar-button, and in a frame for the scarf adj ustably attached to the slotted plate.
The invention further consists in bands provided with metal stiffening, and in details of construction of parts and combinations of the Same, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a rear elevation of a scarf for neck-wear constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same.
A indicates the interior shield or frame of the scarf, which may be of any desired form or contour, and to which the covering or scarf proper is to be attached.
C is a plate, preferably of metal, slotted longitudinally at H, and provided at its upper end with a loop, O, for the collar-button. The hollow internally-threaded stem or shank F of a stud or button, D, is passed through the slot H of the plate C, through an aperture in the shield A, and through the covering J, the button D resting against the plate C.
A stud or button, G, which may be of any ornamental design, is provided with a threaded stem, E, which stem is screwed into the threaded shank F of the button D, and secures the shield A, with its covering J, to the plate C.
By unscrewing the stem of the stud G the scarf can be adjusted higher or lower on the plate C, the shank F moving in the slot H of plate C, and by screwing up the stem ofthe stud G the various parts are clamped between the stud G- and the button D, and the scarf is held at the desired point.
Upon the inner face of the plate C neckbands L are secured, which bands are pro` vided with metal stiffeners M, said bands, with their stifi'eners, being pivoted to the upper corners of plate C, so that they can be passed around or beneath the collar and bent to conform to the neck of the wearer. Additional stiffening-strips may be used between the strip M and the covering of the band L. The bands L may be of any desired or suitable length, short ones being preferred. Instead of the clamping device D G shown and described any other well-known clamping device can be used. l
The adj ustrnentof the scarf upon the holder provides for Searls of different sizes being used with the same holder, as well as :for the adjustment of the scarf in the desired position.
If preferred, the head D of the clamping device may be made smaller, and a washer placed between it and the face of the plate C, covering the slot H therein, which would be a modification of Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters 1. The combination, witli an interior shield, A, or foundation of a scarf for neckwvear, of an independent exterior' slotted plate, C, and clamping device constructed, substantially as described, so that the interior plate, with the scarfI thereon, may be adjusted upon the independent exterior plate and clamped, as set forth.-
2. The con1bination,with the interior shield or foundation of a scarf for neck-wear, of an independent exterior slotted plate, C, and
detachable clamping device, substantially as 4. In a scarf for neck-wear, in combination described, which passes through the intewith the plate C, the bands L, having metal rior shield, A, and through the exterior slotstiffeners M substantially as described. ted plate, to clamp the Whole together, as set 5 forth. JOHN F. POPE.
3. The Combination, with the plate A, of the slotted plate C, adapted to be attached to Witnesses: a collar-button, and of the button D, having H. D. ZoLLARs, internally-threaded stern F, and the stud G, I. B. FIELD. 1o having a threaded shank, as set forth.
