Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUSEL HAZARD, OE NEI/V LONDON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND ALEXANDER PORTER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAM ES.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. 33,280, dated September 10, 1861.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Beit known that I, RUSEL HAZARD, of New London, in the county of Huron and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hannes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which-- Figure l is a front elevation of the upper portion of a'pair of hames provided with my improvement. Fig. 2 isa side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a separate view of one of the clasps hereinafter described.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
The objectof this invention is to adapt the hames to suit a collar or horses neck of any size; and the invention consists in the use of a peculiarly-constructed movable clasp in combination with perforated plates on the faces of the haines, as hereinafter more fully explained.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A A are a pair of coach-hames provided on their outer faces with perforated plates A.
B B are movable clasps provided with loops B to encircle the hames, and with pins or tongues b to engage in the perforations in the plates A.
In using this invention the llame-strap C is passed through the loops and the latter are forced over the tops of the hames and the clasps secured in proper position by means of their tongues. Fig. l represents the parts placed thus in position for use. The upward inclination of the loops B causes the clasps to be held firmly against the outer faces of the ham es, so that the tongues effectually prevent the displacement of the clasps While in use. If it be desired to adapt the hames to a collar of another size, the inner ends of the loops are pressed down so as to withdraw the tongues from the plates A', and the clasps may then be readily moved up or down.
I am aware that haines have been previously made adjustable to suit collars of different sizes, and do not therefore desire to be understood as claiming such an improvement broadly and irrespectively of the particular means employed by me; but,
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi The combination of the perforated faceplates A, tongue-clasps B b, and obliqueloops B', all constructed, arranged, and employed in the manner and for the purpose herein shown and explained.
RUSEL HAZARD. Witnesses:
H. KEsTER, l C. M. BELDING,
