Description

N. PETERS. PHOTO-L THDGRAPHE'? WASHINGYON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KASSON FRAZER, OF SYRACUSE, NEXV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES, RINGS, &O.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,150, dated May (i, i862.
T0 all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, KAssoN FRAZER, ot' Syracuse, county of Onondaga, and Stat-e of New York, have invented a new and useful Improven'ient in Buckles and Rings; and I do hereby declare the following' to be a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, makin g part-of this specification.
l'ignre I represents a piece ol.' wire cut of' the requisite length to Yform a buckle-t` rame. Fig. 2 represents the wire bent in the requisite form for a buckle and ready for the ends f lrames and rings by means ot a sort ot dovetail or ball-and-socket connection, as hereinafter more i'nlly described.
In constructing my invention the Wire from which the frame A and the ring D are t0 be formed is cnt in pieces of the requisite length by means ot a die so shaped as to form the head B on one part of the cut Wire and the socketl or recess C on the other part of the Wire Fig. represents the bucklei bu ckle-tongue.
for the reception ot the head B. The wire is then bent by proper machinery in the form necessary to construct a buckle-frame 0r ring and the ends are brought opposite each other. The ends are then forced laterally together, the head B entering` the recess C. The Whole is then placed under a drop-press, and a blor sets the projections E and F into the neck ot' the head B, giving a smooth surface to the parts at the point of connection and attaching the ends together in a solid manner.
I am aware that the ends of thewire or rod used in forming buckle-frames have heretofore, and under a patent granted some years since, been connected by forming a head upon each end of the Wire or rod and bending around them a grooved ring on the end of the I do not claim such a method ot connection.
3y this my invention a most convenient and useful practical method is furnished of connecting the ends of Wire rod used in constructing buckle-frames, rings, links, and other articles in which such a connection may be applicable.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The method described of connecting the ends of Wire rod used in forming buckleframes and rings-that is, when the two ends are firmly joined together by interlocking'7 substantially as stated, and for the purpose set forth.
KASSON FRAZER.
