(Cl. 2115) This invention relates to the garment art and particularly concerns an improved shirt or blouse for sports wear.

One of the principal difliculties and disadvantages of conventional shirts and blouses, particularly those used by women, when playing golf, bowling and other sports, is that the shirt or blouse pulls out of the skirt or slacks during arm movements of the wearer.

Various expedients have been proposed to remedy this undesirable situation, such as providingelongated bottom tails, use of fasteners, etc. The provision of elongated tails only partially solves the problem. Pulling of the shirt or blouse is not prevented, although the shirt remains held at the end in the skirt or slacks. The shirt then hangs untidily and loosely and the wearer is required to refit the shirt by tucking the tails into the skirt or slacks. Provision of fastening elements such as pins and snap fasteners has not solved the problem and has proven undesirable since free body and arm movements are restricted.

The present invention is directed at solving the above and other difliculties and disadvantages and has as a principal object provision in a sport shirt of elastic panels or bands at areas subjected to greatest pull and strain during use.

Another object is to provide a sport shirt with elastic panels at opposite sides around the arms where they join the shirt bodies.

A further object is to provide a sport shirt with elastic panels or bands at opposite sides and at the rear on the shoulders.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a sport shirt embodying the invention.

FIG. 2 is a rear view of the shirt of FIG. 1.

FIGS. 4 and 5 are front and rear elevational views of another sport shirt according to the invention.

Referring to FIGS. 1-3, there is shown a shirt or blouse 10 having a body 12 open at the front and closed by buttons 14 engaged in buttonholes 16. The shirt has sleeves 18, 19 joined to two endless elastic bands 20, 21, made of knitted fabric. The elastic bands or panels are set into armholes 23, 24 of the body of the shirt. The edges 25 of the armholes and edges 26 of the sleeves are folded under and secured by stitching 28, 30 to the edges 31, 33 of the elastic bands as clearly shown in FIG. 3.

The elastic bands may be elastic transversely, longitudinally, on the bias, or in any one or more directions as desired. In use, the elastic bands will yield when the wearer swings his or her arms inserted in the sleeves. The bottom end 34 of the shirt will be tucked into the top of a skirt, slacks, trousers or shorts. This bottom end 34 will not be pulled out of anchoring garment as the wearer swings his arms, contrary to what has been experienced with conventional shirts and blouses not provided with the elastic bands or panels 26, 21.

FIGS. 4-6 illustrate a form of the invention in which endless elastic bands or panels 20*, 21 have integrally knitted extensions 20 and 21 which extend longitudinally downward at opposite sides of the shirt 10. This shirt has a body 12 formed with rear clutch panel 35 and two front panels 38, 39 joined at their edges 40, 41 and 42, 43 to the elastic panels 20 21 and their extensions 29*, 21 by stitching 46-49. The shirt has short sleeves 18 19 joined to panels 20 21.

FIGS. 7 and 8 illustrate another form of the invention in which shirt 18* has further elastic bands or panels 58, 52 set into panel 3'5 at the rear over the shoulders of the wearer. Panels 50, 52 are curved and disposed parallel to and spaced from the rear portions of elastic panels 20 21* by body sections 51. These further panels 50, 52 allow for very extensive arm and shoulder movements without pulling up the end 34 of shirt. The panels 58, 52 serve as supplemental elastic members to stretch after the panels 20*, 21 have already stretched to their limit or to share stretching with them.

The invention provides an attractive, elastic structure integrally embodied in the garment to adapt it to use and wear in sports activities such as bowling, golf, baseball, softball, tennis and the like.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

A sport shirt construction, comprising front and rear fabric panels, said panels having edge portions defining, sleeve holes near one end thereof, a pair of endless elastic bands secured at one edge thereof to the sleeve hole defining edge portions each of said bands having an elongated integral elastic extension, said front and rear panels having lateral edges secured to opposite edges of said extensions, said extensions extending to the other end of said front and rear panels, sleeves secured to outer edges of said bands, and further elastic bands inset in said rear panel closely spaced from and extending parallel to portions of said endless bands.
