Be itknown that I, LAWRANOE STooxMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Phil adelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have' invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Guns, and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being 4had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to toy guns; and the novelty consists in the construction, arrange nient, and combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the gun, having the bore A, of large diameter, extending nearly the entire length of the gun.

A2 representsan axial bore, of smaller diameter than the bore A', extending from the inner end, a, of the latter to and opening through the butt of the gun. B represents a bore or circular aperture formed near the rear end thereof, and extending from the bottom nearly to the top at right angles to and crossing the bore A. The aperture B has the same diameter as the main bore A', and is provided atitstop with a small aperture, b, that opens throughthe top of the gun.

C represents a trigger-block, lthe body c of which iits into the aperture B.

body c ofthe block C is provided withatrans- 5o verse aperture or bore, c2, and cut-away portion c3, for a purpose hereinafter described.

D represents aplunger which operates witlr .A in the bores A A", and consists of a rod, d, having a diameter equal to the bore A2. The forward end of the plunger is provided with a short plug or block, d, having a diameter equal to the bore A2. Theplungeris also provided upon its rear end witha button, d4, and

When the plunger is in the gun, the rod d passes through the bore A2 and aperture c2 in the body c of the block C, and is surrounded by a coiled spring, E,which bears against the block d ofthe rod,and shoulder a of the bore A', respectively. The function of said spring E is to keep the rod projected to its furthest extent. Vhen the rod D is drawn backward by the button d4 on the rear end thereof, the spring is compressed, as will be readily understood.

F represents a short coiled spring placed between the lower end of thebloclrGand aplate, G, which is secured by screws g to the lower surface of the gun. The block is thuskept unand when the rod D is retracted by means of the button d* forces said block G upward and into the annular groove d2, surrounding said rod, the rear shoulder, (Z5, of said groove bearing against the flattened portion c3 of the block G.

The operation of my invention is as follows: The rod D being retracted and held by the block C, as described, a marble, dart, or other similar projectile is placed in the bore A of the gun against the block d. Downward pressure is applied to the plugG andthe rodD released therefrom. The spring E now forces the rod forward and expels'the projectile with considerable force from the muzzle of the gun.

I deem it important that the trigger-block is housed within the stock of the gun by the plate G, and that such plate forms a bearing for the spring F. The plunger passes through the trigger-block, and has abearing upon the dat face c3 of the extension c thereof when retracted, no matter which surface is uppermost.

The plunger may be rotated to any extent without interfering with the operation of the parts, as the shoulder d5 isA always in position to engage the trigger-block. The trigger-block being hung upon the plunger insures the proper IOO relation of the parts, and that they will operatc until the parts are Worn out.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

1. In a toy gun substantially as described, a spring-plunger having an annular shoulder and Working loosely through a trigger-block, combined with trigger-block, as C, havingiiat face and transverse passage, and the whole adapted to serve as set forth.

2. In combination with the spring-plunger, the pistol-body having transverse opening B I), the trigger-block, as described, trigger-spring F, and plate G, forming one side of the'trigger-eha1nber, and affording a bearing for the spring, as set forth.

3. In a toy pistol, as described, vthe co1nbi nation of the body A, as described, with the plunger, the trigger-block, and actuatingsprings, the plunger operating loosely in and through an aperture formed in such block, as set forth.

4. In a toy pistol, the combination of the following-named elements, to Wit: a body, A, having axial bores A A2 and transverse apertures B b, plunger D, having a rod, d, provided with annular groove d, plug d', button dl, normally held in a projected position by spring E, plug C, having body c, extension c, spring F, and plate G, arranged and combined substantially as described, and for thepurpose set forth.
