- T. B. 'WILLSON.
} 'GUFF FASTENBR' AND ADJUSTER. No. 298.533. Patented May 13', 1884.
INVENTOR WITNESSES n ATTORNEYS.
NITED STATES THEODORE B. VII-JIJSON, OF \VHITEXVATER, WISCONSIN.
CUFF FASTENER AND ADJUSTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,533, dated May 13, 1884. Application filed November 10, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THEODORE B. WrLLsoN, of \Vhitewater, in the county of \Valworth and State of \Visconsin, have invented a new and Improved Cuff Fastener and Adjuster, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device which will serve as a substitute for a button, at the same time holding the cuff in the required position on the sleeve, facilitating fastening and unfastening the cuff, and permitting its length to be easily adjusted.
.The invention consists in a strip having a bend forming a prong at one end, and having its opposite end secured to a clasp, which clasp holds the fastener on the sleeve, the opposite or bent end of the strip being passed through both button-holes of the cuff.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal view of my improved cuff fastener and adjuster, showing how it is used. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal elevation of the end part of the same, showing a modified construction.
A strip, A, of metal, hard rubber, celluloid, or other suitable material is fastened to a spring-clasp, B, at one end. A short distance from the opposite end the strip is provided with a bend, A, from which a prong, G, extends, which prong is formed by the end of the strip. If desired,a spur, D, can be formed to project from the upper end of the bend A. in the inverse direction of the prong O. The
prong O or the prong O and the spur D are 0 passed through both button-holes E of the cuff F, and when the cuff is in the desired position the clasp B is opened and the edge of the slit in the shirt-sleeve G is passed between the j aws of the clasp, and if the clasp is released it grasps the edge of the sleeve at the slit, and is thus held on the'sleeve. The cuff is held on the strip A, and the strip is held to the sleeve. The cuff can easily be adjusted a greater or less distance from the hand, it can be fastened and unfastened rapidly, and prong O can be passed through the button-holes more readily than a button can.
The prong C may be expanded into or capped with a disk or other ornament.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a cuff holder and adjuster, the combination, with the strip A, having a bend, A,
forming a prong, O, at one end, of the clasp B, fastened to the opposite end, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a cuff holder and adjuster, the combi nation, with the strip A, having a bend, A,
