My invention relates to urinals for railwaycars, and for all other places in which they are employed.

A fault of all urinals as new constructed is that the basin is placed too high, rendering a drip-pan upon the floor necessary to prevent fouling of the apartment. 'I his fault is espe- A cially noticeable in railway-cars,where the unsteady motion greatly increases the difficulty of using, though it exists in a greater or less degree under all circumstances. Moreover, the urine is ordinarily conducted away from the basin by a slender metallic pipe leading .out through the floor, which pipe soon becomes foul, and cannot be cleaned thoroughly without great trouble.

The objects of my invention are to provide a urinal in which the basin shall be so near the floor as to render a drip-pan beneathunnecessary, and also to secure the whole device in position in such a way'that for purposes of cleansing it may readily be detached from the wall and carried out `of its apartment, and after cleansing be readily replaced in position. It may be detachably connected to the wall by any one of many well-known. devices; but I have contrived a device especially suitable to the purpose, which will be hereinafter described.

I accomplish the above obj ects, first, by providing the basin with a back either synclinal .or concave, (or of any other form that will produce a vertical channeh) extending'upward to the required height, and providing it underneath with awide convergent extension reaching to the floor, and connecting there with the waste-pipe; and, secondly, by detachably securing the device so constructed in position. My invention consists in the general features above outlined, and, furthermore, in cert-ain details of construction and combinations of parts, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.

The length of the extension B should preferably be such as to raise the basin a foot, or about that distance, above the door D, while the back should be sufficiently high to extend from two and one-half to three feet above the door. The spring is confined between thetop of the casing and a pin, l, passing through bolt. The casin g is screwed to thewall above the place for the urinal at such a height that the lower end of the bolt will be' somewhat lower when at its lowest point than the top of the socket n. To insert the urinal, the lower end, la, of the bolt is inserted in the socket n, and the bolt forced upward, in opposition to the spring, sufficiently to permit the lower end of the pipe B to be inserted in the top of the waste-pipe E. The force ofthe spring then tends to hold the `urinal firmly in place. To detach it, the urinal is lifted upward in opposition to the spring until the lower end is free from the waste-pipe, after which it is readily released The removable cover F `affords facilities for cleansing and for removing any foreign substances which may find their way into the urinal and tend to clog the outlet. If preferred, however, a permanent bottom may be provided having outlet-openings in the usual form.

Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A urinal comprising the basin A, provided with a downward extension, B, to connect with the waste-pipe at the iioor, and with the high channeled back C, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.

2. In a urinal, the basin A, provided with the extension B on its under side, and extended into a high channeled back, C, above, in conlbi nati on with mechanismfor detachably securing it in position, substantially as described. 3. The urinal comprising a basin, A, provided with the downward extension B, having its lower end adapted to enter an opening in the floor, and a high channeled back provided at its top with a socket, a, in combination with the casing H, having means for securing` it to the wall, bolt I, and helical spring K, substantially as described.

4. In a urinal, the basin A, having a high channeled back, C, and downward extension B, provided with the internal shoulder, t, in combination with the cover F, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as described.
