SHAVING GUIDE FOR TRIMMING SIDEBURNS Filed May 24. 1957 INVENTOR.
RALPH PE'cK ATTO EH EYS United States Patent SHAVING GUIDE FOR TG SIDEBURNS Ralph Peck, Independence, Kans.
Application May 24, 1957, Serial No. 661,414
2 Claims. (Cl. 132-45) The present invention relates to a shaving guide for trimming sideburns.
An object of the present invention is to provide a shaving guide which enables the user thereof to trim his sideburns to an even line while using the electric razor.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a shaving guide for trimming sideburns which enables the user thereof to obtain a smooth and even line at the temple line of the sideburns, as well as at the lower end of the sideburns.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a shaving guide for trimming sideburns which is of simple structure, one sturdy in construction and having long life characteristics, one which is economical to manufacture, and one which is highly efiective in action.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention Will be fully apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the annexed drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a view of the shaving guide according to the present invention, showing it in a position of use held by the fingers of the hand of the user against the sideburns of the user;
Figure 2 is a sectional view, on an enlarged scale, taken on the line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is an elevational view of the one face of the shaving guide opposite to the face shown in Figure 1.
Referring in greater detail to the drawing, in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the shaving guide according to the present invention comprises an upstanding sheet-like member designated generally by the reference numeral12 and having one face 14 thereof overlying and abutting a sideburn of an individual when in a position of use, as shown in Figure 1.
A saddle 16 is carried by the portion of the member 12 adjacent the upper end of the latter and overhangs the other face 18 of the member 12.
The saddle 16 is provided with a pair of spaced pockets 20 and 22 extending inwardly from the upper end of the saddle 16, each pocket 20 or 22 receivably engageable with the finger 24 or 26 of the hand of the user, a portion of the head of the user being shown in Figure 1 and designated generally by the reference numeral 28.
The portion of the one face 14 of the member 12 adjacent the upper end thereof is serrated, as shown in Figures 2 and 4, and designated by the reference numeral 30 so as to form a non-slip surface engageable with the sideburn of an individual when the member 12 is in the position overlying in abutting the sideburn.
The member 12 tapers in thickness from a point below the saddle 16 to the lower end thereof to form a thin lower edge and fiat face 18 over which an electric razor may be guided with the lower end edge of the member 12 providing a straight line shielding the sideburn from the blade of the shaving instrument. This enables the user thereof to obtain a satisfactory shave leaving the lower end portion of the sideburn with a straight edge or line. Further, each side edge of the member 12 is arcuately curved from a point midlength of the saddle 16 to the lower end edge of the member 12, enabling the user to use the curved side edge as a guide for trimming the forward end of his sideburn if desired.
Obviously, when used on the other side of the head, the opposite side edge would be so used.
Preferably, the shaving guide according to the present invention is fabricated of plastic, rubber, or the like. While the shaving guide is shown with a saddle 16 having two pockets 20 and 22, the guide may be altered to have a single pocket or more than two, if desired, although it has been found by experimentation that the two pockets 20 and 22 are sufficient for support of the guide upon the fingers of a hand of an individual for holding the member 12 in position with the one face 14 overlying and abutting the sideburn of the user.
What is claimed is:
1. A shaving guide for shielding the sideburn of an individual while shaving comprising an upstanding sheetlike member adapted to be positioned so that one face thereofoverlies and abutts a sideburn of an individual, a saddle carried by the portion of said member adjacent the upper end thereof and overhanging the other face of said member, said saddle and the upper end of said member together defining a pocket extending inwardly from the upper end of said saddle receivingly engageable with the finger of a hand of an individual for holding said member in the position with said one face overlying and abutting the sideburn of an individual.
2. A shaving guide for shielding the sideburn of an individual while shaving comprising an upstanding sheetlike member adapted to be positioned so that one face thereof overlies and abutts a sideburn of an individual, a saddle carried by the portion of said member adjacent the upper end thereof and overhanging the other face of said member, said saddle and the upper end of said member together defining a pocket extending inwardly from the upper end of said saddle receivingly engageable with the finger of a hand of an individual for holding said member in the position with said one face overlying and abutting the sideburn of an individual, the portion of said one face of said member adjacent the upper end thereof being serrated to form a non-slip surface engageable with a sideburn of an individual when said member is in the position overlying and abutting said sideburn.
