5 tell/e More BY ATTORNEYl Patented Nov. 8, 1949 WINDOW VENTILATOR Steve Mora, Detroit, Mich., assignor to Inter- City Manufacturing Company, Detroit, Mich., a copartnership Application May 22, 1947, Serial No. 749,761
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to building construction, and has particular reference to a ventilator suitable for use with a conventional window sash, storm sash, and the like.
An object of the invention is to generally improve devices ofvthis character, and to provide a ventilator which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and eicient in operation.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the character indicated, which may be combined With a conventional Window sash whereby various degrees of ventilation may be effected without the necessity of moving the window sash.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simplified ventilator which is constructed and arranged so that it may be mounted on any conventional Window sash whether the sash be old or new.
The foregoing' and other objects and advantages of the invention will become more apparent as the description proceeds, reference being made from time to time to the accompanying drawings, forming part of the within disclosure, in which drawings:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the device embodying the invention shown mounted on a conventional window sash.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3 3 of l Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, it will be understood that in the embodiment herein disclosed, the reference character 1 indicates the sill of a vconventional window in which is mounted the sash 8 having glass 9. Secured to the inside face of the sash 8 by means of screws 9, or other suitable means, is a face plate I9 which is provided with a peripheral ange I`I which lies in a plane parallel to the plane occupied by the principal area of the face plate I0.
The face plate I is slotted, as at I2 and I3, to accommodate the linger grips I4 and I5 formed on the rectangular gate I6. The nger grips I4 and I are rotatably secured to the slidable gate I6, as at ISA, Fig. 3. The finger grips I4 and I5 are formed of a at stock, which is thin enough to be extendable through the slots I2 and I3 so 2 that they may be inserted through the slots and rotated degrees, after which they serve to prevent the disengagement of the slidable gate i6 from the face plate.
The face plate is provided with circular openings I'I, I8, and I9 which are adapted to register with corresponding openings I'IA, ISA, and I9A formed in the slidable gate I6 and corresponding openings 20 (Fig. 2) formed in the sash 8 when the parts are in the position shown by the solid lines in Fig. 1. When the parts are in the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1, the openings Il, IIA, I8, I8A, I9, and I9A are Athen out of register, and the openings Il, I8, and I9, and the corresponding opening 20 in the sash 8 are in effect closed so that no air may go through the sash 8.
With this device it is obvious that various degrees of ventilation maybe eiected through the sash 8.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An article of manufacture comprising a face plate having a peripheral ange defining a rectangular area, a dat plate slidable in said rectangular area, said face plate and said flat plate having registerable openings therein, a longitudinal slot in said face plate, and a flat nger grip having a neck portion of substantially the same width as said slot and having a thickness less than the width of said longitudinal slot peened to said gate and arranged to pivot with respect thereto, said nger grip being adapted to extend through said longitudinal slot when turned in one position.
