Description

March 16, 1948. Ac 2,437,741
WINDOW VENTILATOR Filed Sept. 25, 1946 790v H f/o/acH Patented Mar. 16, 1948 UNTE STATES PATENT OFFICE WINDOW VENTILATOR Roy H. Hoach, Detroit, Mich.
Application September 25, 1946, Serial No. 699,261
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in window ventilators adapted for mounting in windows of various types.
The primary feature of the invention is to provide a ventilator of the character specified including a slidable member having holes herein for movement into and out of registry with similar holes in the window sash.
Another important feature is to provide a device of this character that is efficient and reliable in operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational View of the invention attached to a conventional window sash.
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the plate holding brackets.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 represents a fiat substantially rectangular plate having its upper edge 6 and lower edge 1 inclined outwardly therefrom.
Punched through plate 5 are a series of holes or openings 8 and between said openings and the same diameter as the openings on the inner surface of plate 5 are formed annular ribs 9, said ribs adapted to rest in openings l bored through a window sash II when the plate is in a closed or locked position.
Extending outwardly from the central portion of plate is a finger grip i2, secured to said plate by a screw 52a said grip affording means for sliding plate 5 horizontally so that openings 8 are moved into and out of registry with openings [0 in the window sash.
A pair of resilient brackets l3 having holes [4 punched through one end I la are secured to the window sash by screws I5, each bracket being curved outwardly at It so that its end I! is spaced slightly outwardly from the sash. The upper and lower forward edges of end I! are formed into tongues !8 that are inclined slightly outwardly and are adapted to bear lightly against the inclined upper and lower edges of plate 5, as
shown in Figure 3 to secure the plate in position in front of the sash.
Brackets l3 are so placed apart so that when one longitudinal edge of plate 5 rests against curve I6 of one bracket the opposite edge of said plate will still be contacted and held by tongues l8 of the opposite bracket, and openings 8 in the plate will register opposite openings It] in the sash, as shown in Figure 2 to admit air.
To prevent air from entering through opening 8 in plate 5 finger grip I2 is pushed horizontally until ribs 9 on plate 5 lie in openings I0 which looks plate 5 against the surface of the window sash.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim:
1. A window ventilator of the class described, comprising a rectangular plate having its upper and lower longitudinal edge portions inclined outwardly, a pair of outwardly spaced brackets carried by a window sash having upper and lower tongues inclined outwardly from the sash and frictionally contacting the inclined edge portions of the plate to support the plate, spaced openings in the plate registering with similar openings in the window sash when the device is in an opened position, and a finger gripping means for sliding said plate horizontally to move the openings into and out of registry.
2. A window ventilator of the class described, comprising a rectangular plate having its upper and lower longitudinal edge portions inclined outwardly, a pair of outwardly spaced brackets carried by a window sash having upper and lower tongues inclined outwardly from the sash and frictionally contacting the inclined edge portions of the plate to support the plate, spaced openings in the plate registering with similar openings in the window sash when the device is in an opened position, annular ribs extending outwardly from the inner surface of the plate and between the openings in said plate, said ribs resting in the openings in the sash to lock the plate in a closed position, and a finger gripping means carried by the plate for sliding said plate horizontally to move the openings into and out of registry.
ROY H. HOACH.
