1 Claim.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in ventilators for storm sash and the like. v

It has for one of its objects to provide a unitary device or attachment for storm sash which is so designed as to embody therein a combined air deilecting shield and adjustable closure therefor.

Another object of the invention is to provide a l11o-draft ventilator of this character which is simple, compact and inexpensive in construction, and which can be readily applied to and removed from a storm sash. l

Referring 'now to the drawing, I0 indicates a storm sash of ordinary construction having a Ventilating slot or opening II in its bottom rail for the admission of outside air.

Appliedto the inner side of the bottom rail of the sash about its vent slot I I is a unitary device or attachment consisting of a combined airydefiecting shield and closure therefor, the latter being manually adjustable to regulate vthe `the top of this section being open to admit the air into the room in such a manner as to minimize sash-rail, the end flanges serving as attaching flanges for receiving screws I6 to secure the device to the sash. I

The adjustable closure for regulating the amount of air to be delivered into the room through the sash-slot II is indicated by the numeral i'I and consists of a flat sheet metal plate applied to the open rear side of the Ventilating section I2 of the deilecting shield and pivoted at one end at I8 to the companion end flange I5a of such section to swing vertically.v Adjacent its free end this plate has a finger piece I9, which may be punched therefrom or otherwise formed, for facilitating its movementeto the adjustable positions desired. kBy preference, those portions of the shield-bodyinwardly of its end attaching flanges I5a are offset forwardly, as indicated at 20, to provide spaces or pockets for receiving the end portions of the closure plate I'I and bringing y the rear face of such plate flush withA the companion faces of the end flanges so that the same is effectually retained between the shield body and the storm sash. This unitary assembly of deecting shield and adjustable closure is easy to apply and remove or interchange when desired,

and it is very effective in controlling vroom-ventilation with a minimum of drafts.
