' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
S. OSCAR PARKER, OF LITTLETON, NEW HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNOR TO HIM- SELF AND CHARLES PARKER, OF SAME PLACE.
G LOVE:-'FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 240,455, dated April 19, -1881.
Application filed February 25, 1881.
To'all whom it may concern:
Be it known'that I, SILAs Oscar. PARKER, of Littleton, in the county of Grafton and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and Improved Glove-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved fastening for gl0ves,which permits of fastening thick and heavy gloves very conveniently.
, The invention consists in a short bar or lever with heads or knobs, mounted so as to slide in aswiveled head or button that is attached by an eyelet to the glove opposite the I 5 button-hole, the bar and head or button being passed through the button-hole, and the bar then turned to rest transversely over the same, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a glove provided with myimproved fastening, showing it closed. Fig. 2 is a detail cross-sectionalelevation of my improved glove-fastening. Fig; 3 is a plan view of the same.
2 5 The bar o r lever A is provided with knobs 01' heads B B at the ends, and is loosely mounted in a swivel button-head, C, in such a manner that it can slide longitudinally through this swivel until one of the heads B strikes against the same. The neck of this swivel button-head fits into an eyelet, E, fastened to the glove F opposite to the button-hole H of (Model) the same, and is bent over at the under side to form an annular flange, G, to hold the swivel button-head in the eyelet without preventing it from turning.
The operation is as follows: One end of the lever or rod A is passed into thebutton-hole H, and then the entire rod is drawn through the button-hole, which causes the swivel button-head C to pass into the same. The rod or lever A and the swivel C are formed so that the lever passes transversely over the buttonhole. Then the lever is pushed through the swivel button-head until this button-head is 5 about in the middle of the rod, as shown in Fig. 1. In this manner it keeps the glove closed and permits of opening and closing the same very conveniently.
The within-described fastener may also be used for shoes, &c.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a glove-fastener, the combination, with the swivel button-head H, of the eyelet F, into which it fits, and the rod or lever A, loosely mounted in the swivel, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
S. OSCAR PARKER.
