Description
L. H. PARKER Combined Buttone r and Button-Fastener No. 205,207. Pat'ehted June 25,1878.
N. PETERS. PHOTO LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. u u.
. Isl-II UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS H. PARKER, OF LITTLETON, NEW HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO IRA PARKER, OF SAME PLACE, AND GEORGE M. GLAZIER AND CHARLES T. LINCOLN, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED BUTTONER AND BUTTON-FASTENER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 205,207, dated June 25, 1878; application filed February 25, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS H. PARKER, of Littleton, New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buttons for Gloves, Shoes, and other analogous articles, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a glove with my improved button attached. Fig. 2 is a view of the button and loop in the act of buttoning the glove. Fig. 3 is a view of the button and loop detached.
My improvement relates to that class of buttons designed for fastening gloves and shoes, requiring a strain to bring the parts together; and it consists in the metal loop sliding over the shank of the button, and by which the button is brought into position in the buttonhole, and then secured by the loop.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried it out.
In the drawings, A represents the head of a button; a, the shank, and B the innerplate, for securing the button to the glove or shoe,
in the ordinary way. Around the shank a is bent the elongated loop C, which may be provided with the enlargement or knob b, by which the loop can be conveniently handled in fastenin g or unfastening the glove or shoe.
The operation of my button is as follows: The knob or enlargement b is first passed through the button-hole, and, by the opposite end clutching the shank a, the headAis-drawn through the button-hole, and the loop is then moved back transversely across the hole, as shown in Fig. 1.
This simple construction affords a secure fastening for the heaviest articles of gloves and shoes, regardless of the thickness or stiffness of the material.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a
combined buttoner and fastener, constructed as described, and consisting of a suitable button and the diverging elastic loop C, substantially as specified.
LEWIS H. PARKER}. Witnesses:
M. F. HARRIMAN, IRA PARKER.
