This invention relates to pin curl clips and it is primarily an object of the invention to provide a clip of this kind which will hold a pin curl in position during the drying process without mashing but in a manner to maintain the curl in its original form.

Another object of the invention is to provide a clip of this kind embodying a top member and a body member and wherein the top member is so formed as to provide a core which holds the center of the pin curl open.

Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a pin curl clip constructed in a manner to assure speedy anchoring and effective holding of a pin curl close to the head and at the same time keeping the helical center of the pin curl open and generally maintaining said curl in its original contour.

In professional hair dressing, many small curls are formedand held in position close to the head by means of hair pins as a preliminary step in preparing the wave necessary in styling the hair. The hair pins required are very numerous, to apply, and often distort the symmetry of the curls which, when combed out for styling, are diflicult to form into the desired wave effect. A particular object ofthe invention is to provide a clip which willsubstantially eliminate these disadvantages.

The invention consists in the details of construction. and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved clip whereby certain important advantages are attained and the article rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth}. v

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.

In order that my-invention may be the better understood, Iiwillnowproceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of aclip constructed in accordance with an embodiment of the invention;

Figure 2 is a view in perspective of the bottom member of the clip;

Figure 3 is a view in perspective of the top member of the clip;

In the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in Figures 1 to 4, the clip includes two members, A and B, the member A being the top of the clip and the member B the bottom.

The member A comprises an elongated flat bar I having its rear end continued by a perpendicularly related and relatively short handle member 2, and the opposite or forward end of the bar is continued by a downwardly and forwardly inclined extension 4. The intermediate portion of the bar I, and at approximately its center is depressed to provide a core or divider 5. The handle member 2, at 'its side margins and immediately adjacent to its junction with the bar I, is provided with the rearwardly disposed ears 6 for a purpose to be hereinafter referred to.

The bottom or lower member B comprises a plurality of parallel fiat teeth 1, herein disclosed as three in number. These teeth I. are integral with a rear plate or head a, which is provided with an upwardly and rearwardly inclined handle member 9, herein shown as on an approximate angle of 45 with respect to the plane of the teeth 1. The side margins of the handle member 9, at the central part thereof, are provided with the forwardly directed ears Ill.

The ears 6 of the member A and the ears III of the member B partly overlap and through said overlapping portions of the ears 6 and I0 is di rected a rivet pivot member I I whereby the members A and B are connected for swinging movement. one with respect to the other. The member A is constantly urged toward the member-B by a coil spring l2, encircling the pivot member I I 'between the ears 6 and I0, said springs having extended end portions l2, one bearing againstthe handle member 2 and the other against the handle member 9. i

Normally the members A and B are in closed relation with the core 5 in contact with the middle tooth l but by pressing together the handle mem bers 2 and 9, the clip will be opened to allow the core to be applied. When applied, the core or divider 5 is within the helical opening of the pin curl while the perimeter of the curl is held between the middle tooth 1 and the portions of the the core or divider 5. The extension 4 engages the curl in a manner to retain the'same in required formation. The core or divider 5 is of such depth to prevent the upper member A from collapsing or mashing the pin curl with which the clip is used or otherwisedistorting the regularity of the curl and thus holding ln'the embodiment of the invention as illustrated in Figure 5 the top member C and the bottom. or lower member D are constructed and assembled in substantially the same manner as the members A and D, respectively, except that the bar I i of the top member C forwardly of the core or divider it is formed to provide a plurality of outwardly and radially disposed arms I! termihating in a-downwardly an'dforwardly inclined extension I 8. From the foregoing description it is believed to be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departin from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

3. A pin curl clip as set forth in claim 1 wherein the said one member comprises a plurality of substantially parallel wide, flat teeth.

A pin curl clip comprising two members, means connecting said members for relative swinging movement-means for constantly urging one oi the members toward the other, a core carried' by one of the members and disposed toward the other to space the portion of the one member fore and aft of the core from the second member when said members are in closed position, saidv core member being adapted to be received within a central opening of a pin curl, and the member carrying the core being provided in advance of the core with a plurality oi outwardly and radially as disposed arms for co-action with the pin 0111'] with which the clip is used.
