Description

M.,A. A DLE R'. Safety-Pocket,
No. 226,470. PatentedyAfar-il 13. I880.
7% I mm 4 ETERS. P OTO-LIYM GRA ER w UNITED STATES.
PATENT OFFICE.
MARCUS A. ADLER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY-POCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 226,470, dated April 13, 1880.
Application filed January 8, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, MARCUS A. ADLER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Safety-Pockets, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a front view of a pocket embodying my invention, part of the outer compartment being broken away to show the mouth of the inner or safety compartment. Fig. 2 is a cross-section thereof.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to pockets for garments; and it consists in the combination of an outer or introductory compartment and an inner or safety compartment, extending at a right angle to each other, the outer compartment being open at the top, while the inner compartment is open at the side, its mouth or opening being situated adjacent to one of the vertical edges of the outer compartment, so that the safetycompartment is accessible only through the outer compartment, and is practically concealed thereby, which obviously enhances its utility.
.In the drawings, the letter A designates the outer compartment, and B the inner compartment, of my pocket. I usually make the whole pocket of three layers of fabric, one of which may constitute the body of a garment, the three layers being joined in such manner as to leave a top opening, 0, to the outer compartment and a side opening, d, to
the inner compartment, which last named opening is adjacent to one of the vertical edges of the outer compartment, as clearly shown.
The method of reaching the inner compartment, B, is through the outer compartment,
and when an article is placed therein it is safe against a surreptitious removal, as well as against loss, the greatest possible safety being obtained by the location of the mouth or opening 61 to the inner compartment, which is such as to effect a concealment of the inner compartment by the outer one.
If desired, a third compartment, extending parallel to the outer compartment, A, may be arranged within the inner or safety compartment.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a safety-pocket, the combination of an outer or introductory compartment and an.
